A Grim Milestone - 5 Years Of Media Inacuracy

Five years ago, President Bush landed on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln and delivered a speech under a banner that read "Mission Accomplished." The banner referred to the Abraham Lincoln and its crew who were returning home after a 10 month deployment. But that's not the story the media has told ever since..

Giving Lesbians A Bad Name

The residents of Lesbos are tired of having their good name abused.

A Greek court has been asked to draw the line between the natives of the Aegean Sea island of Lesbos and the world's gay women.

Three islanders from Lesbos — home of the ancient poet Sappho, who praised love between women — have taken a gay rights group to court for using the word lesbian in its name.

One of the plaintiffs said Wednesday that the name of the association, Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece, "insults the identity" of the people of Lesbos, who are also known as Lesbians.

"My sister can't say she is a Lesbian," said Dimitris Lambrou. "Our geographical designation has been usurped by certain ladies who have no connection whatsoever with Lesbos," he said.

Actually, it's worse than he thinks. He can't call himself a Lesbian either.

Could Barack Obama Be Blackmailed Now?

More than ever, Barack Obama is invested in the probably lie that he never heard even one of the reverend Jeremiah Wright hateful sermons that we heard on Fox News, or the New York Times knew all about or that the The New Republic cited long ago. By saying that this was all news to him, he essentially issued a Gary Hart-like invitation to prove him wrong.

That means that there is at least one person then who holds Barack Obama's presidential prospects in his hand - Jeremiah Wright.

Democrats Lie - So What Else Is New?

It's not a mistake. It's not a misstatement. It's a lie. Multiple lies, in fact. And, the Democrats know it.

So why does Howard Dean lie? He lies because he has nothing else to use against John McCain, at least not from a hard-Left perspective. The Democrats have painted themselves into a corner with two terrible candidates, who have busied themselves with tearing each other apart. He needs a distraction, and since Dean apparently feels that Democratic policies are losers, he has to resort to cheap, transparent distortions and lies instead.
That should signal the American electorate as to which party has the necessary leadership to succeed, and which has a well-earned inferiority complex.

Hillary Mans Up - Liberals Appalled

To me, it was as when she claimed that she had tried to join the Marines, but liberals took it seriously when Hillary announced that she would "totally obliterate" Iran if it attacked Israel.

AMERICANS have learned to take with a grain of salt much of the rhetoric in a campaign like the current Democratic donnybrook between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Still, there are some red lines that should never be crossed. Clinton did so Tuesday morning, the day of the Pennsylvania primary, when she told ABC's "Good Morning America" that, if she were president, she would "totally obliterate" Iran if Iran attacked Israel.

This foolish and dangerous threat was muted in domestic media coverage. But it reverberated in headlines around the world.

Just once, I would like to see a Democrat stand up, even rhetorically, against America's enemies, instead of embracing endorsements from Hamas, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, FARC and Hugo Chavez, as Obama has.

Barack Obama - Pay No Attention To That Predator Behind The Curtain

According to Barack Obama, predatory bank officers pressured people into loans the had no chance of repaying just that they could throw people out into the street.

So, why did Obama appoint one of these predators to serve as his national campaign finance chairperson?

Barack Obama - Old Style Corrupt Chicago Politician

Back in 2000, Barack Obama was a little light in the wallet. So, he accepted an $8000/month retainer from Killerspin, a table tennis company. In exchange, he used his position in the Illinois legislature to secure hundreds of thousands of dollars in state grants for his benefactor.

Obama's take - $112,000 into his own pocket and $1000 in campaign contributions. In exchange, Killerspin received $320,000 in taxpayers subsidies.

Obama is a pretty good investment.

Who Needs HIV? We Have Al Gore

As I pondered Earth Day this past week, I couldn’t help but wonder why Barack Obama would sit in the congregation of a pastor who claims that AIDS was created by America to exterminate black people. And I struggle to understand how someone who aspires to the highest political office in the land would keep company with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who believes the same thing.

After all, there is no reason whatsoever for Ronald Reagan’s CIA to cook up some exotic virus that selectively infects and kills Africans when we can accomplish the same thing without any great technological advances. After all, we have an environmentally conscious Congress. And Congress can kill people all around the world with something as mundane as a subsidy.

In the cause of fighting global warming and freeing America from dependence on foreign oil, our Congress created corn-to-ethanol subsidies, a hideously expensive program that accomplishes neither of those goals. And, as an added bonus, the ethanol subsidy has contributed to a dramatic increase in food prices around the world.

Congress recently raised subsidies so that annual ethanol production will rise from 6.5 billion gallons last year to a federally mandated 9 billion gallons this year. Ethanol production consumed nearly a fifth of all the corn grown in this country and the distilleries will use up to 30% of the crop this year. The Senate also set a goal of 36 billion gallons annually by 2022. Considering that one could feed a child for an entire year on the amount of corn required to produce just 11 gallons of ethanol, meeting that goal would require the pointless wastage of enough corn to satisfy the caloric requirements of just about every child on Earth.

According to Investor’s Business Daily, world grain prices have tripled, fertilizer has quadrupled and food prices have jumped 65% so far in 2008. The World Food Program has declared this the worst food crisis since World War II and says that 20 million children are now at risk of starvation. Would you care to guess the skin color of many if not most of those children? Why bother engineering a virus to commit genocide? We’ll just take food out of their mouths and burn it in our cars. On top of that, it takes nearly a gallon of petroleum to produce a gallon of ethanol.

The rush to produce ethanol has exacerbated a Gulf of Mexico dead zone as nitrogen fertilizers used to grow corn run off into the Mississippi River and into the gulf. Those fertilizers feed algal blooms that deplete oxygen and suffocate marine life.

Congress has just finished another round of its Soviet-style show trials, bringing oil company executives up to Capital Hill and forcing them to listen to ignorant harangues. Wouldn’t it be nice if we, the people, could call congressmen before our own tribunal and tell them what we think of the job they’re doing? Enron executives never committed crimes as egregious or costly as those of Congress.

Which brings me back to my original question. Why dream up some silly conspiracy theory about America creating the AIDS virus to kill black people? Why not focus on something as obvious and correctable as ethanol subsidies or DDT bans? Malaria, which was nearly wiped out before DDT was banned, has come back and kills more Africans than AIDS every year.

Perhaps the reason that Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan have to dream up wacky conspiracies to feed their flocks’ paranoia is that their Chosen One, Barack Obama, has favored and voted for ethanol subsidies all along. In fact, he’s the only one of the three presidential candidates left standing who has. Until she declared her candidacy for president, Hillary Clinton sensibly opposed ethanol subsidies. But last year with the Iowa caucuses looming and facing unexpectedly stiff competition, she proposed doubling the subsidy.

John McCain has opposed subsidies all along, although he has lately talked nice about ethanol, telling Iowa corn farmers that it “just makes sense,” which it most certainly does not. But at least he has refrained from voting for ethanol subsidies.

Earth Day is primarily about smug environmentalists celebrating themselves. And so I hope that you are all feeling good about all you’ve accomplished. I’d hate to think that all those children went to bed hungry for nothing.

By the way, Al Gore is laying low for this one. According to the author of the New York Sun article just cited,
"Mr. Gore was not available for an interview yesterday on the food crisis, according to his spokeswoman. A spokesman for Mr. Gore’s public campaign to address climate change, the Alliance for Climate Protection, declined to comment for this article."

Democrats Too Expensive Even For t\The Washington Post

Just how spendthrift are Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. They're too expensive for the Washington Post.

THE DEMOCRATIC presidential candidates have some big plans -- with big price tags attached. By our calculations, using figures supplied by the campaigns, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) has proposed new spending and tax breaks that would amount to almost $265 billion a year when fully implemented, while the initiatives proposed by Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) total nearly $333 billion. Those initiatives, which would be phased in over time and which the candidates say they have identified ways of funding, don't include billions of dollars more in one-time spending.

The Gospel According To Nancy Pelosi

The Democrat Speaker of the House likes to rely upon an Biblical verse that isn't actually in the Bible.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is fond of quoting a particular passage of Scripture. The quote, however, does not appear in the Bible and is "fictional," according to biblical scholars.

In her April 22 Earth Day news release, Pelosi said, "The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, 'To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.' On this Earth Day, and every day, let us pledge to our children, and our children's children, that they will have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and the opportunity to experience the wonders of nature."

Cybercast News Service repeatedly queried the speaker's office for two days to determine where the alleged Bible quote is found. Thus far, no one has responded.

Fat Is Where It's At?

Sorry. I just can't get behind this nonsense that fat people should be comfortable with the obesity. Sadly, it seems that even beauty pageant judges are falling for it.

The Democrats' Flawed Candidates

Congratulations to Operation Chaos. The protracted primary battle has revealed that the Democrats have two deeply flawed candidates.

Mrs. Clinton started as a deeply flawed candidate: the palpable and unpleasant sense of entitlement, the absence of a clear and optimistic message, the grating personality impatient to be done with the little people and overly eager for a return to power, real power, the phoniness and the exaggerations. These problems have not diminished over the long months of the contest. They have grown. She started out with the highest negatives of any major candidate in an open race for the presidency and things have only gotten worse.

And what of the reborn Adlai Stevenson? Mr. Obama is befuddled and angry about the national reaction to what are clearly accepted, even commonplace truths in San Francisco and Hyde Park. How could anyone take offense at the observation that people in small-town and rural American are "bitter" and therefore "cling" to their guns and their faith, as well as their xenophobia? Why would anyone raise questions about a public figure who, for only 20 years, attended a church and developed a close personal relationship with its preacher who says AIDS was created by our government as a genocidal tool to be used against people of color, who declared America's chickens came home to roost on 9/11, and wants God to damn America? Mr. Obama has a weakness among blue-collar working class voters for a reason.

I must boast here that I was a guerilla fighter for Operation Chaos long before El Rushbo marshaled the dittoheads. I cast a vote for Hillary, trying to keep her candidacy alive, in the Washington primary, which predates Limbaugh's Operation Chaos.

Obama The Heartless

Can you imagine that anyone would take seriously a candidate so cruel that he would support leaving unwanted infants to die in the Spartan style of exposure? I can. His name is Barack Obama.

In 2002, President Bush signed into law a bill titled the "Born Alive Infants Protection Act" (BAIPA). This law was necessary because, believe it or not, infants were being born alive during attempted abortions and then, ancient Spartan style, left to die. Jill Stanek wrote about this last year, saying:

"As a nurse at an Illinois hospital in 1999, I discovered babies were being aborted alive and shelved to die in soiled utility rooms. I discovered infanticide."

The act was so vile that even staunch abortion advocates would not oppose BAIPA. Stanek tells us that it passed the Senate by unanimous vote, garnering the support of senators Kerry, Kennedy and Clinton. She then pointed out:

"The bill also passed overwhelmingly in the House. NARAL went neutral on it. Abortion enthusiasts publicly agreed that fighting BAIPA would appear extreme."

But the state version of BAIPA failed for years in Illinois. Any guesses as to why? Stanek goes on to explain:

I testified in 2001 and 2002 before a committee of which Obama was a member.

Obama articulately worried that legislation protecting live aborted babies might infringe on women's rights or abortionists' rights. Obama's clinical discourse, his lack of mercy, shocked me. I was naive back then. Obama voted against the measure, twice. It ultimately failed.

In 2003, as chairman of the next Senate committee to which BAIPA was sent, Obama stopped it from even getting a hearing, shelving it to die much like babies were still being shelved to die in Illinois hospitals and abortion clinics.

Barack Obama - The Candidate Of Nothing

Ed Morrisey has an excellent analysis of Barack Obama today and points out what an empty suit the man is.

In short, Obama has run as something he clearly is not, at least not so far. He wants people to believe that he can change the game, but in the three short years he has served in national office, he has done nothing to suggest that. John McCain actually has a track record of working across party divisions and trying to reach solutions on controversial issues; Barack Obama prefers to reserve his “political capital”. All Obama has done is talk about change, and that talk has begun to wear thin, especially as people take a closer look at him and his political associations.

In a way, Obama is the Jon Stewart candidate. He sits on the edge of politics, making “wry and sardonic” comments about what other people do without doing anything himself. No wonder younger voters love him; he gets to be ironic while taking no responsibility for anything. And when people press him for action, he’d prefer to eat his waffle in peace until he can find a way to act as a commentator rather than as a real agent for change.

And what excuse has he given for that? Obama doesn’t want to become part of the Beltway culture. That sounds good, but did he run for the Senate so he could not participate in the legislative process? He could have stayed in Illinois to do that.

I'm sure that he's the Jon Stewart candidate so much as he's the Jerry Seinfeld candidate.

The Congo Penis Panic

Who would you want in the White House when the phone rings at 3:00 AM warning that there's a black magic penis theft ring operating in the US?

Rumours of penis theft began circulating last week in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo's sprawling capital of some 8 million inhabitants. They quickly dominated radio call-in shows, with listeners advised to beware of fellow passengers in communal taxis wearing gold rings.

Purported victims, 14 of whom were also detained by police, claimed that sorcerers simply touched them to make their genitals shrink or disappear, in what some residents said was an attempt to extort cash with the promise of a cure.

Of course, there are those who fear that one of the Democratic candidates would do the same thing.

"I hope the Americans stay here for a long, long time"

I think that a lot more Iraqis feel this way than John Murtha, Barack Obama, Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi would ever admit.

"Al-Qaeda are the worst criminals on earth," he said standing before large posters of his slain relatives displayed among others killed by Al-Qaeda at a memorial set up at the local community centre.

"I hope they never come back. We now just want to farm in peace. I hope the Americans stay here for a long, long time," he said.

And,

"When Al-Qaeda was here it was impossible to farm," said the jolly-faced farmer from under an orange cap while taking time out from his labours to visit his cousin's newly-reopened grocery store on a dusty rural road.

"They cut the power so we couldn't pump water," said Wadi. "We couldn't buy fuel. They would shoot at anyone they saw in the fields. They kidnapped and murdered many people. They destroyed life here."

The last crops he planted -- in 2005 -- withered and died because he couldn't irrigate them after Al-Qaeda arrived in force.

In the next two years he and his family of seven managed to survive only thanks to their dairy herd and by stealthily smuggling milk off to markets in Baghdad under the noses of the jihadists.

"Unlike most of the other people in Arab Jubur, we were never attacked by Al-Qaeda. We kept a very low profile," said Wadi, a giant of a man whose profile is anything but low. "We all survived, God be praised."

Not as fortunate was Mohammed Ali Jassim al-Juburi, 54, a former sergeant in the army of ousted dictator Saddam Hussein who returned to his farmlands in Arab Jubur after losing his post in the aftermath of the US invasion in 2003.

Two of his brothers were killed by Al-Qaeda jihadists in a drive-by shooting while his son was among 12 youths killed in an ambush in December.

"After they killed them they dragged their bodies behind vehicles through the streets, proclaiming them to be spies," said Juburi. "My son's body was mutilated."

I'd Like To Wish Al Gore A Happy Earth Day

Investor's Business Daily really hits the nail on the head with its Earth Day editorial today.

Shortage: Al Gore sees no climate improvement since he made "An Inconvenient Truth." Actually, things have gotten worse. As the environmentalists celebrate Earth Day, the rush to replace fossil fuels threatens global famine.

A week after Tax Day, April 15, we are forced to endure another indignity, Earth Day, April 22. This Earth Day finds the world threatened not by rising sea levels, but by rising food prices. Many on the planet are more likely to starve than drown, and we have only Gore's disciples to blame.

In an interview with the British paper The Sun, the jolly green giant whined: "I have to say the situation has not improved since I made the movie in 2006." The polar bears, he says, are still going to drown, and boats will soon be moored to the top of the Washington Monument.

To be sure, we're setting weather records, but they're not what Gore has in mind. Record cold temperatures have occurred over the globe this winter, and the only concern about flooding is from record snowfalls across the planet.

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon recently warned of a more imminent threat, one ironically created by the rush to save the planet. Speaking in Accra, Ghana, the U.N. chief said the world must drastically increase food production to ease skyrocketing prices that have caused food riots in countries like Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Haiti.

The production of food grains has increased. But it is being diverted to empty gas tanks, not empty stomachs. Gore and others have warned that climate change is an imminent threat to the world. We would argue that climate-friendly policies are more of a threat.

The Gore-induced rush to biofuels has diverted crops such as corn, soybeans and palm oil from food to fuel. Vast swaths of rain forest in places like Malaysia and Indonesia have been cleared to provide farmland not to feed the hungry but to fuel our cars. Our own grain belt has been increasingly diverted to ethanol over corn flakes.

This has pressured food prices while damaging the environment. In the U.S., more cultivation has increased runoff from pesticides and fertilizer, creating dead zones for aquatic life from Chesapeake Bay to the Gulf of Mexico.

As Indur M. Goklany of the Cato Institute reports, agricultural expansion leads to higher releases of carbon from biomass and soil above and below ground. Fertilizers that increase yields also increase nitrogen discharge into waters and emissions of nitrous oxide — a greenhouse gas that heats the atmosphere 300 times more effectively than carbon dioxide.

According to World Bank data, as of March, world grain prices had tripled and fertilizer prices had quadrupled since 2000. Food prices have risen an astounding 65% just since the beginning of this year.

"Climate-change remedies can lead to greater poverty, starvation and disease, as well as widespread ecological destruction — some of the very misfortunes that they're supposed to prevent," Goklany wrote in the New York Post. "In our haste to address global warming, we have yet to think seriously about our policies' unintended effects."

In his 1968 book "The Population Bomb," Paul Ehrlich warned of famine and mass starvation from overpopulation. Ironically, that might yet occur, not from overpopulation, but from overzealousness in trying to save Earth from a nonexistent threat.

Happy Earth Day, Al.

Barack Obama - Certified Chickenshit

After getting his ass handed to him in Philadelphia, Barack Obama has officially backed out of the next Democratic debate.

He doesn't trust the media to ask the questions he has scripted answers for.

What the heck, when he can't even trust the AP to stay on message anymore, who are his friends?

I would note, this selective quoting has become commonplace among the Democrats. McCain hasn’t run a negative ad yet, and to the best of my knowledge, I don’t think he’s quoted either of his opponents on the campaign trail. (If someone remembers McCain offering a similar half-quote of Obama, let me know.)

Is this the way they’re going to play it? They can’t score points on what McCain actually argues, so they have to take part of his answer, cut off the rest, and hope nobody notices?

Obama Advisor's Blasphemous Video

Just chill.

Ha Ha.

And Speaking Of Thomas Frank - He's BAAACK

Aside from John McCain, the biggest winner in the latest Democratic debate was Thomas Frank, who suddenly matters again. For the time being, he's been given the space to sneer weekly at Kansans and the rest of us on the pages of the Wall Street Journal.

Besotted with latte-fueled arrogance, the liberal looks down on average people, confident that he is a superior being. He scoffs at religion because he finds it to be a form of false consciousness. He believes in regulation because he thinks he knows better than the market.

"Elitism" is thus a crime not of society's actual elite, but of its intellectuals. Mr. Obama has "a dash of Harvard disease," proclaims the Weekly Standard. Mr. Obama reminds columnist George Will of Adlai Stevenson, rolled together with the sinister historian Richard Hofstadter and the diabolical economist J.K. Galbraith, contemptuous eggheads all. Mr. Obama strikes Bill Kristol as some kind of "supercilious" Marxist. Mr. Obama reminds Maureen Dowd of an . . . anthropologist.

He doesn't particularly care for that caricature, but he certainly lives down to it.

The Mainstream Media - Unmasked

The biggest loser in last week's debate was the mainstream media, who were exposed as something quite a bit less than objective and unbiased.

Most of the media mauling consisted of anger that the ABC moderators brought up a series of issues that had surrounded Mr. Obama since the last Democratic debate, a long seven weeks ago. They included his remarks that "bitter" Pennsylvania voters "cling" to religion, guns and "antipathy toward people who aren't them" and his relationships with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and William Ayres, an unrepentant former member of the bomb-planting Weather Underground group. Mrs. Clinton also came under some fire over her made-up story of coming under sniper fire in Bosnia.

According to liberal journalists, all these topics are irrelevant. Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo said they were "frivolous items . . . that presumed the correctness of Republican agenda items." Mr. Obama agreed, dismissing the items brought up by ABC as "manufactured issues."

Obama Unmasked

The facade is falling away and Barack Obama is getting revealed for the hard left ideologue he is.

Obama's new resemblance is less to Kennedy or Reagan than to leftist author Thomas Frank, whose 2004 book, "What's the Matter With Kansas?," answered the liberal conundrum: Why do ordinary Americans vote against their own economic interests to support Republicans? Frank explained that "deranged" and "lunatic" Kansans were led away by Republicans from material concerns to social issues. Obama similarly described small-town Americans turning to guns and the Bible in frustration over government's failure to take care of them -- a more genteel version of Frank's thesis. That raises the question, "What's the matter with Obama?"

As Abraham Lincoln once observed: "You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time. But, you can't fool all the people all of the time."

Condi Calls Out Sadr

Don't make Condi angry. You wouldn't like her when she's angry.

"I know he's sitting in Iran," Rice said dismissively, when asked about al-Sadr's latest threat to lift a self-imposed cease-fire with government and U.S. forces. "I guess it's all-out war for anybody but him," Rice said. "I guess that's the message; his followers can go too their deaths and he's in Iran."

Translation Mookie! She's calling you a pussy.

Voting Self Interest

Have politicians never heard of principle? In yet another tedious speculation on why obviously bone-headed whites don't vote Democrat, even though it would be in our economic self interest, Jonathan Chait does his best to reinforce Barack Obama's condescending explanation for why he and his ilk cannot win our vote.

Here's an explanation that apparently has not occurred to you. I call it principle. I have a neighbor who has accumulated a multimillion dollar fortune. If some politician came to me and promised to take half of it and give it to me, that would be in my economic self-interest, would it not? But, it would violate my principles, and so I would vote against any politician promising that.

Yes Barack, Some Americans Are Bitter - At People Like You And Your SF Friends

My how things have changed in my idyllic little hometown of Tombstone, Arizona. Why, back when I was just a tyke, we were a gun free utopia populated exclusively by enlightened atheists. When illegal aliens wandered into town from across the Mexican border, we’d put our arm around their shoulders, walk them down to the nearest gay bar and buy ‘em a drink. Actually, all we had in those days were gay bars. And if you wanted to start a fight, all you had to say was that you were in favor of higher tariffs.

“What, you barbarian,” we would shout. “Have you never heard of Smoot-Hawley? Put up your dukes!”

San Francisco’s billionaire sophisticates had no one to look down their noses at during their Camembert and canapé parties back in those days as we were just as snooty and elitist as they were.

But then, the mine closed and the town sank into a deep bitter gloom. And when nobody from the federal government came by with a welfare check, well that was the last straw. Just like that, the town was transformed into a seething caldron of snarling, bible-thumping, gun-toting xenophobes who would never dream of buying anything that did not have a “made in U.S.A.” sticker on it.

Well, I might have Tuzlaized that story just a little bit. In fact, there were guns and churches in town before the mine closed. And any alien who showed up in Tombstone was probably just passing through on his way to someplace else with better opportunities. In fact, after the mine closed, lots of people moved on for the same reason.

There are other reasons why people own guns and worship God other than an insufficiently paternalistic nanny state. But in the cocoonish world where the anointed cloister themselves to ponder how best to supervise the rest of us, caricatures serve to stroke the vanity of the elite rather than to inform their thinking.

This is not the first time that Barack Obama betrayed a total misunderstanding of those whom he certainly considers mere commoners. In December, he attempted to show just how much he shared the pain that Iowans feel by complaining about the high price of arugula at Whole Foods. Whole Foods is a very upscale grocer specializing in natural and organic foods that caters to the sophisticated tastes of people like the Obama family and San Francisco snobs. There is not a single Whole Foods store in the entire state of Iowa.

The awkward silence and puzzled looks on the faces of his audience after his attempt to harmonize with the little people indicated that they know as little about arugula as I do (Note: It’s a leaf that rich people put on their salads because lettuce is just too common). And, if they have every heard of Whole Foods, they probably would never fill a grocery basket there, as they would prefer to save money at a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

But Obama may have gotten one thing right. Many Americans are bitter. But they are bitter because there is too much government in their lives, not too little.

Every trip to the filling station or the grocery store embitters Americans. They are bitter because gas prices are high and their government obstructs exploiting known domestic reserves or exploring for new ones. They are bitter because their food prices are soaring (not just arugula) because their government encourages and subsidizes a disastrous corn ethanol program that accomplishes nothing positive.

And Americans do not “cling” to their guns so much as they defend their Constitutional rights.

Here on the Palouse, environmentalists have sued to have an earthworm declared an endangered species. If they succeed, farming as we know it will become illegal. Are farmers “clinging” to dirt or are they defending their Fifth Amendment rights to own private property?

Americans are also bitter because they have to walk on eggshells lest a word slip their lips that offends a member of a fashionable victim group whose plight is in vogue with the San Francisco crowd. But WSU faculty can call the president of the WSU College Republicans a "white shitbag" without tangible consequences.

Yes there is bitterness out there. But it’s not because we don’t have enough of Obama and his friends in our lives. It’s because we have too much of them already.

The Mainstream Media Rally To Obama's Side

Any doubt of the mainstream media's bias has been obliterated by the mainstream media.

The shower of indignation on Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos over the last few days is the clearest evidence yet that the Clintonites are fundamentally correct in their complaint that she has been flying throughout this campaign into a headwind of media favoritism for Obama.

Last fall, when NBC’s Tim Russert hazed Clinton with a bunch of similar questions — a mix of fair and impertinent — he got lots of gripes from Clinton supporters.

But there was nothing like the piling on from journalists rushing to validate the Obama criticisms and denouncing ABC’s performance as journalistically unsound.

The response was itself a warning about a huge challenge for reporters in the 2008 cycle: preserving professional detachment in a race that will likely feature two nominees, Obama and John McCain, who so far have been beneficiaries of media cheerleading.

Of course, we know who the media will back in the fall, when they have to change sides.

Meanwhile, Obama and Hillary are arguing over who the biggest whiner is.

Democratic presidential rivals Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are complaining about which candidate is the biggest complainer.

The Democrats are cozy with terrorists, but John McCain has his problems too.

Thanks to the Puffington Host for uncovering this scandal.

Obama: Senator Tom Coburn Equivalent To A Terrorist

Barack Obama was finally asked to explain his friendship with William Ayers, an unrepentant domestic terrorist. He responded by comparing Ayers to his fellow US senator, Tom Coburn.

The fact is, is that I'm also friendly with Tom Coburn, one of the most conservative Republicans in the United States Senate, who during his campaign once said that it might be appropriate to apply the death penalty to those who carried out abortions.

Do I need to apologize for Mr. Coburn's statements? Because I certainly don't agree with those either.

But, of course, Hillary has her own terrorist problems.

After Mrs. Clinton criticized Mr. Obama for not severing all Ayers ties, Mr. Obama said, “By Senator Clinton’s own vetting standards, I don’t think she would make it, since President Clinton pardoned or commuted the sentences of two members of the Weather Underground.”

That referred to commutations by Mr. Clinton in January 2001, shortly before leaving office, for Linda Evans and Susan Rosenberg. Ms. Evans had been convicted of weapons and explosives charges connected with eight bombings in the mid-’80s and sentenced to 40 years in prison. Ms. Rosenberg had been charged in connection with a 1981 armed robbery in which two police officers and a security guard were killed, and was serving 58 years after being convicted of weapons charges in a 1984 case.

And, when she was first seeking political office, her husband bought votes for her in the Puerto Rican community by pardoning terrorists.

Update: Obama lied.

This is getting to be a habit with him.

Hamas Endorses Obama

Another foreign leader weighs in for Barack Obama.

During an interview on WABC radio Sunday, top Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef said the terrorist group supports Obama’s foreign policy vision.

“We don’t mind–actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance,” Yousef said in response to a question about the group’s willingness to meet with either of the Democratic presidential candidates.

Does Barack Obama Have Waldheimer's Disease?

Barack Obama seems to have a very convenient memory. He doesn't recall his pastor ever saying anything racist or anti-American and now he has no memory of ever meeting sleezeball Nadhmi Auchi.

Pinocchio problem? To fib . . . or is it a faulty memory?

• • To wit: Dem presidential contender Barack Obama's handlers may be telling the press Obama has NO "recollection" of a 2004 party at influence peddler Tony Rezko's Wilmette house, but a top Sneed source claims Obama not only gave Rezko's guest of honor, Iraqi billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, a big welcome . . . but he made a few toasts!

• • Trial file: The name of Auchi, who was banned from the U.S. in 2005, according to court papers, surfaced at Rezko's trial Monday. (Top Illinois businessman and Rezko pal Bill Cellini, whose name has also surfaced at the trial, was also at the Rezko party.)

• • The Quinn bin: Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn apparently is the only one with a good memory and admitted being at the Rezko party, attending late, and welcoming Auchi on behalf of the state of Illinois.

If you've never heard of Waldheimer's disease, it's a condition whose sufferers tend to forget things that are embarrassing or politically inconvenient. In Kurt Waldheim's instance, he forgot that he was a Nazi SS officer.

Who Owns Barack Obama?

Just about everybody.

It's accurate that Obama doesn't take money from oil companies; neither do his opponents, because corporate contributions are illegal. But Obama, like Clinton and John McCain, has accepted donations from oil and gas company employees — $222,309 in Obama's case from donors from Exxon, Shell, Chevron and others, according to campaign-finance data. Two oil company CEOs have pledged to raise at least $50,000 each as part of Obama's fundraising team.....

Obama holds fundraisers at law firms that lobby in Washington. Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor confirmed the campaign held five fundraisers at New York and Boston offices of three firms that lobby, including Greenberg Traurig, whose lobbying clients include gambling and handgun interests.

Obama counts lobbyists among his informal advisers, including Broderick Johnson, who heads the Washington lobbying practice of Bryan Cave, which represents Shell Oil, records show. Nine campaign staffers have been lobbyists, public records show. Johnson did not respond to requests for comment.

•Obama accepts money from spouses of federal lobbyists. In December, the campaign returned a $250 contribution from lobbyist Thomas Jensen of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, but a few days later, it cashed a $500 check from his wife, Sarah, records show. Jensen said his wife had "personally chosen" to contribute to Obama.

•Obama accepts contributions and fundraising help from state lobbyists. Florida lobbyist Russell Klenet hosted a fundraiser for Obama Aug. 25, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Two months before, Klenet had withdrawn as a lobbyist in Washington for a kidney dialysis company that relies heavily on federal revenue, Senate records show. Klenet did not return phone calls.

•Obama is raising more than his opponents from executives of some of the corporate interests he criticizes. Obama has received more money from people who work at pharmaceutical and health product companies, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics. He's taken in $528,765 through February, compared with $506,001 for Clinton and $139,400 for McCain, despite saying last July that "I don't take pharma money."

Barack Obama - A Living Lie, Part Deaux

In an address to reporters, Barack Obama poured out lie after lie and not a single member of the unbiased and ever vigilant mainstream media challenged even one of those lies.

The torrent of dishonesty was breathtaking and at times, in the words of John Hinderaker was at times:
"...an exact inversion of the truth. Which is not unusual for Obama."

The tenor of the meeting was probably embodied in the most difficult question he was asked.

"Senator Obama, today's event is sold out. Thank you. You have been drawing large crowds wherever you travel. What's your take on the sense of excitement around your candidacy?"

Are comfortable? Would you like another pillow?

Hillary Is A Liar. Barack Is A Lie.

Is Barack Obama the moderate, post-racial candidate he represents himself to be? Nope!

Senator Obama's election year image is that of a man who can bring the country together, overcoming differences of party or race, as well as solving our international problems by talking with Iran and other countries with which we are at odds, and performing other miscellaneous miracles as needed.

There is, of course, not a speck of evidence that Obama has ever transcended party differences in the United States Senate. Voting records analyzed by the National Journal show him to be the farthest left of anyone in the Senate. Nor has he sponsored any significant bipartisan legislation -- nor any other significant legislation, for that matter.

Senator Obama is all talk -- glib talk, exciting talk, confident talk, but still just talk.

Some of his recent talk in San Francisco has stirred up controversy because it revealed yet another blatant contradiction between Barack Obama's public image and his reality.

Speaking privately to supporters in heavily left-liberal San Francisco, Obama let down his hair and described working class people in Pennsylvania as so "bitter" that they "cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them."

Like so much that Obama has said and done over the years, this is standard stuff on the far left, where guns and religion are regarded as signs of psychological dysfunction -- and where opinions different from those of the left are ascribed to emotions ("bitter" in this case), rather than to arguments that need to be answered.

Labels: , ,

Obama Condescension and Arrogance

As usual, nobody says it better than George Will. Obama is the pinnacle of an attitude that has been growing within the Democratic Party for decades.

Obama may be the fulfillment of modern liberalism. Explaining why many working-class voters are "bitter," he said they "cling" to guns, religion and "antipathy to people who aren't like them" because of "frustrations." His implication was that their primitivism, superstition and bigotry are balm for resentments they feel because of America's grinding injustice.

By so speaking, Obama does fulfill liberalism's transformation since Franklin Roosevelt. What had been under FDR a celebration of America and the values of its working people has become a doctrine of condescension toward those people and the supposedly coarse and vulgar country that pleases them.

When a supporter told Adlai Stevenson, the losing Democratic presidential nominee in 1952 and 1956, that thinking people supported him, Stevenson said, "Yes, but I need to win a majority." When another supporter told Stevenson, "You educated the people through your campaign," Stevenson replied, "But a lot of people flunked the course." Michael Barone, in "Our Country: The Shaping of America From Roosevelt to Reagan," wrote: "It is unthinkable that Roosevelt would ever have said those things or that such thoughts ever would have crossed his mind." Barone added: "Stevenson was the first leading Democratic politician to become a critic rather than a celebrator of middle-class American culture -- the prototype of the liberal Democrat who would judge ordinary Americans by an abstract standard and find them wanting."

The Last Gasp Of The Dead Tree Media Will Be A Liberal Cliche

I cannot imagine that there is any other sector of the economy that is so contemptuous of its customer base than the mainstream news. The media regularly offend roughly half of those who might purchase their products. At a time when newspapers are suffering declines in circulation and advertising revenues, the only adjustment they can imagine is cost cutting. Why not consider producing a more attractive product?
Adapting to market demands is essential to success. When Edsels didn’t sell, Ford took them off the market. They didn’t offer a cheaper, stripped down version.
Is it possible that newspapers might sell better if they offered a product that appealed to a wider audience? How about presenting a more balanced view of events so that both sides of the political spectrum could find something appealing? It doesn’t have to be conservative, just less anti-American and more honest.
Here is how the media turns many of their customers off.
When amateur photos taken inside Iraq’s Abu Ghraib prison were leaked to the press, the story stayed on the front page for weeks. But, when Al Qaida torture chambers were liberated, the news was generally accessible only on the websites of a few independent embedded reporters.
In June of last year, as the surge was really getting underway, the US Army came upon the town of al Ahamir and found it completely empty of life. Not a man, woman or child could be found among the houses. Even the livestock were missing. It was a ghost town. The stench of decay led searchers to shallow graves. As US and Iraqi soldiers approached the village, al Qaida had exterminated every single living being before fleeing. You didn’t read about that in your newspaper, did you?
The al Ahamir killing fields were just 3.5 miles from where several reporters were staying, yet none made the trip to see for themselves. Other than freelance reporter Michael Yon’s online magazine, stories about al Ahamir appeared nowhere. Michael Yon offered his reporting free to any newspaper and none accepted. But how often have you read second hand reports about US caused civilian casualties that our enemies spread?
Do the media really believe that Americans only want to believe the worst about their military? And why do they conceal the true depths of our enemy’s depravity?
A recent public opinion poll revealed that four of five Americans believe that their country is on the wrong track. Considering the unrelenting negative slant on the news that they read in their newspapers, that’s hardly surprising. And it really is a slant. Consider these statistics. In March of 1996, the unemployment rate was 5.5%. Today, it is 5.1%. The number of long term unemployed Americans in 1996 was 1.33 million. Today only 1.28 million fall into that category. The median term of unemployment in 1996 was 8.3 weeks. Today the jobseeker can expect to find a job after 8.1 weeks. The pool of Americans who have given up looking for work in March of 1996 numbered 451,000. Today that number is 401,000.
The 1996 data were touted by the media as proof that America was enjoying a robust economy. Today one cannot pick up a newspaper without reading that we are on the precipice of an economic abyss. And while nobody would argue that our economy is currently healthy, a couple of years ago the economy was smoking hot. Nevertheless, even then a plurality of Americans believed that we were in a recession because the mainstream press reported little but bad news. At least half of most newspaper’s potential customer base knows full well that the one economic statistic that colors media thinking is that, in 1996, a Democratic president was seeking reelection, while in 2008 the media are rooting for a change of party in the White House.
What evidence is there that Americans want to believe that the war in Iraq is lost? Do Americans really want to be told that their military is cruel and incompetent? Is there such a thing as good economic news? Why keep printing the dead tree version of Edsels when the market has rejected it?
I think Americans might want to read something uplifting now and then. They might even buy a newspaper that printed it. But, just as Hollywood continues to pour out anti-war movies even though such movies bomb at the box office, the media only know one way to do business. After all, everybody they know thinks the same way they do.

.

In other words, the system is broken because he can raise more money than the government offers.

Seal The Deal In Iraq - With Another Surge

Michael Yon argues that if the US Senate would like to bring the troops home sooner, they ought to support a troop surge reinforcement.

The Iraqi central government is unsatisfactory at best. But the grass-roots political progress of the past year has been extraordinary – and is directly measurable in the drop in casualties.

This leads us to the most out-of-date aspect of the Senate debate: the argument about the pace of troop withdrawals. Precisely because we have made so much political progress in the past year, rather than talking about force reduction, Congress should be figuring ways and means to increase troop levels. For all our successes, we still do not have enough troops. This makes the fight longer and more lethal for the troops who are fighting. To give one example, I just returned this week from Nineveh province, where I have spent probably eight months between 2005 to 2008, and it is clear that we remain stretched very thin from the Syrian border and through Mosul. Vast swaths of Nineveh are patrolled mostly by occasional overflights.

We know now that we can pull off a successful counterinsurgency in Iraq. We know that we are working with an increasingly willing citizenry. But counterinsurgency, like community policing, requires lots of boots on the ground. You can't do it from inside a jet or a tank.

Over the past 15 months, we have proved that we can win this war. We stand now at the moment of truth. Victory – and a democracy in the Arab world – is within our grasp. But it could yet slip away if our leaders remain transfixed by the war we almost lost, rather than focusing on the war we are winning today.

Here's my favorite part:

Iraqis came to respect American soldiers as warriors who would protect them from terror gangs. But Iraqis also discovered that these great warriors are even happier helping rebuild a clinic, school or a neighborhood. They learned that the American soldier is not only the most dangerous enemy in the world, but one of the best friends a neighborhood can have.

And whose heart would not be warmed by this.

The change goes far beyond the statistical decline in casualties or incidents of violence. A young Iraqi translator, wounded in battle and fearing death, asked an American commander to bury his heart in America. Iraqi special forces units took to the streets to track down terrorists who killed American soldiers. The U.S. military is the most respected institution in Iraq, and many Iraqi boys dream of becoming American soldiers. Yes, young Iraqi boys know about "GoArmy.com."

Well, I guess that I can answer my own question there. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Jay Rockefeller would not find that heartwarming. Barack Obama probably belongs on that list as well

"We will embarrass all of those who have rushed to write our obituary"

Iraq's national identity is alive and growing.

Iraq, freed from a ruthless dictatorship, has chosen plurality, democracy and federalism as a system of government. It is struggling to implement them against a formidable set of internal and external challenges. The leaders of the new Iraq must further demonstrate resolve to defend their choices and rise above parochial interests.

Having intervened and committed itself so deeply, the U.S. is debating the level and cost of its engagement. I submit that it cannot afford to lose this fight to its enemies. The destinies of the U.S. and Iraq have become intertwined and their national interests very closely linked.

It seems that only the Democrats and Al Qaida are eager for an unconditional US failure in Iraq.

From Sawdust To Gasoline In Two Minutes?

It's the holy grail - converting cellulose to fuel. It's been done.

Reporting in the April 7, 2008 issue of Chemistry & Sustainability, Energy & Materials (ChemSusChem), chemical engineer and National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER awardee George Huber of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (UMass) and his graduate students Torren Carlson and Tushar Vispute announced the first direct conversion of plant cellulose into gasoline components.

In the same issue, James Dumesic and colleagues from the University of Wisconsin-Madison announce an integrated process for creating chemical components of jet fuel using a green gasoline approach. While Dumesic's group had previously demonstrated the production of jet-fuel components using separate steps, their current work shows that the steps can be integrated and run sequentially, without complex separation and purification processes between reactors.

Solution To Political Polarization - One Pole

I suppose that Dinesh D'Souza’s speech at Washington State University late last month was indeed polarizing, as its critics charge. After all, how can you even have poles when only one side of a debate is permitted a voice? As is typically the case on a college campus, every effort was made to shout down a conservative voice and further, to intimidate those who might consider inviting another conservative speaker.
Edward Weber, the director of the WSU’s Thomas S. Foley Public Policy Institute, expressed dismay last week in a Spokane Spokesman-Review guest editorial at the vitriol generated by the appearance of a conservative speaker. The title of Dinesh D'Souza’s speech was "Racism is not the Problem" and in it he argued against racial preferences in public policy. Dr. Weber seemed to have been taken by surprise by the antagonistic response from the left that the speech or even the invitation evoked.
“The question-and-answer period immediately following the talk and ensuing commentary in WSU's campus newspaper, The Evergreen, made clear that many took offense at D'Souza's message, going so far as to accuse D'Souza and, by extension, the Foley Institute, of further polarizing the campus on the issue of race, and accusing the Foley of being irresponsible,” he wrote.
Welcome to my world Dr. Weber. This is WSU, where faculty feel free to confront and attempt to bully the College Republicans for taking a position on a debate that departs from their own. This is WSU where the administration purchases tickets for protestors, with a former president’s approval, so that they can disrupt and shout down a play. This is WSU, where a student of mine once informed me that she and several others had been paid out of state funds to protest a speech. This is WSU where a student was nearly forced out of the College of Education for holding conservative religious beliefs and for wearing a camouflage cap to class.
It was a revealing editorial that everyone should read. In it Dr. Weber admits that he had allowed himself to be intimidated into shunning conservative speakers.
“While no one has ever stopped me from inviting a conservative speaker to WSU, the hegemony of the left-leaning liberal viewpoint is such that the only grief I've ever received from my advisory board or others is when I have invited John Ashcroft, John Sununu, Mr. D'Souza, and a handful of others to campus under the Foley banner. I have never been interrogated or otherwise questioned about any liberal speaker so invited....”
“As a result, I have shied away from inviting too many of "the wrong kind" of intellectual. For that lack of courage I must apologize to all of the conservatives on campus -- students, staff and professors -- and in the surrounding communities of Washington State. I should have fought harder to bring more conservative voices to campus.”
That’s an admission that should leave honest people quaking, but is more likely to cause WSU’s academic lefties to lift their chins high in smug satisfaction. Here is a man who is entrusted with encouraging philosophical conversations and yet confesses that he has allowed himself to be bullied into muzzling one side of the debate. All the while he insists that he believes in the “marketplace of ideas.” He just lacked the courage to stand up for that belief.
And of course, the left does not believe in any marketplace, whether it’s the marketplace of ideas or the marketplace of retail stores. The left believes that it should be making choices for all of us who lack their intellectual capacity and fail to grasp the issues as they do. Stated simply, the left does not trust the great unwashed to arrive at the correct conclusions when presented with both sides, and so only one side should be allowed on the podium.
There is quite an irony to this episode as the former speaker of the United States House of Representatives Thomas Foley himself was not especially tolerant of contrary opinions. Before the voters sent him packing into an earlier than he had planned retirement, he was attempting to shut down conservative talk radio by re-imposing the “Fairness Doctrine.” It wasn’t enough for him that the left either dominated or monopolized all other news and entertainment. In its own way, the Foley Institute has upheld one of its namesake’s doctrines.

Air America Host Randi Rhodes Suspended For Calling Hillary Clinton A Whore

There are things you just can't say about Hillary.

I have two questions: First of all, who is Randi Rhodes? And secondly, Air America is still on the air?

The Frog Decline Reversal Project

If you still don't have enough causes to get behind, here's a new one to keep you busy.

An Earth Gobbling Black Hole Created By Mad European Scientists

Do you need one more thing to keep you up late worrying tonight? How about this:

It may "create unsafe conditions of physics" which may have disastrous effects. How? Well, you may imagine a micro black hole gobbling up everything unstoppably, while a strangelet (a hypothetical clump of particles including strange quarks) may run amok converting all nearby matter into strange matter, also wrecking the Earth.

They're talking about the CERN Large Hadron Collider that's due to be powered up shortly and they're suing to stop it.

The lawsuit filed by a group of Hawaii residents is alleging that not enough safety checks have been made by CERN to prevent disaster when the LHC goes live in the coming weeks.

So, if you wake up in a black hole later this month, you'll know why. Sleep well. Scientists say it's safe. And they're always right.

What Does NATO Know That Obama Doesn't?

It's quite a long list actually, but the most prominent current example has to do with the missile defense shield.

NATO leaders meeting in Bucharest were set to endorse a planned U.S. missile shield for Europe on Thursday, a senior U.S. official told reporters.

The final summit statement would "recognize the substantive contribution to the protection of the allies" from the missile defense system to be deployed in the Czech Republic and Poland, the official told reporters.

Meanwhile, Barack Obama promises to cut this "unproven" defense technology.

Hanoi Jane Endorses Obama

Hear it here.

More Obama Chickens Come Home To Roost

Barack Obama didn't just march with Louis Farrakhan, he helped organize the march.

Earlier this week it was reported that Barack Obama marched with Louis Farrakhan in Washington DC:

Obama took time off from attending campaign coffees to attend October's Million Man March in Washington, D.C. His experiences there only reinforced his reasons for jumping into politics.

But that's not all...
In 1995, Barack Obama helped organize the Million Man March in Washington with anti-Semite and America-hating racist Louis Farrakhan:

Barack Obama Takes Gobs Of Money From Big Oil

Barack Obama busted for another lie.

When my family back in Pennsylvania turns on the TV these days, they may see this Barack Obama TV ad where he's standing in a gas station saying the following:

"Since the gas lines of the ’70s, Democrats and Republicans have talked about energy independence, but nothing’s changed — except now Exxon’s making $40 billion a year, and we’re paying $3.50 for gas.
I’m Barack Obama. I don’t take money from oil companies or Washington lobbyists, and I won’t let them block change anymore. They’ll pay a penalty on windfall profits. We’ll invest in alternative energy, create jobs and free ourselves from foreign oil. I approve this message because it’s time that Washington worked for you. Not them."

Factcheck.org today takes a look at Obama's claim to not take money from oil companies and concludes that the statement "misleading" since according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics Obama has taken more than $213,000 from individuals (and their spouses) who work for companies in the oil and gas industry -- not to mention that two of Obama's top fundraisers are top executives at oil companies"

It is literally true that Obama doesn't take money from oil companies. No federal candidate does -- corporations have been banned from direct contributions since 1907.

Barack Obama Serial Liar

Barack has been outed as a serial liar as he continues to repeat his dirty lie.

The Columbia Journalism Review wonders why the press continues to allow him to repeat it unchallenged.

I guess it's time for Saturday Night Live to start making fun of the media again.

Update: The Boston Globe proves the Columbia Journalism Review's point.
