The IRS on Tuesday filed a $538,652 lien against Al Sharpton with the New York City Register's office for taxes assessed in 2009. Mr. Sharpton and his lawyer disputed the accuracy of the lien, since he was granted an extension of time to October 15 to file his 2009 tax return.  (Detroit News, New York Post)  Mr. Sharpton's civil rights group, National Action Network, also faces serious tax difficulties.

Harry Reid Resorts To Race Baiting - Again

There have been far more applicants for the reparations required by the Pigford settlement than there are eligible recipients and the Democrats seem set on making these obviously fraudulent payouts. Republicans have demanded and investigation. Harry Reid calls that racist.
A spokesman for Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) slammed Republicans for blocking legal settlements for black farmers and Native American trust holders, saying they should "have the courage to say" whether they are "fundamentally opposed to delivering justice" to minority Americans.
"If Republicans are fundamentally opposed to ending this injustice for black farmers and Native American trust account-holders, they should at least have the courage to say so and stop playing games with this critical issue,” said Reid spokesman Jim Manley in a statement.
Nobody is advocating that justice should be denied to black farmers. But when 5 times as many applications have been paid out as there were actual farmers, clearly there's a bit of fraud and corruption involved.

Keeping Government Money In The Family

When Representative Russ Carnahan (D-Missouri) took office in 2005, his brother got into the wind energy business. As a result, the family business has predictably prospered, most recently in the form of $107 million dollars.
Earlier this month, the White House released a report entitled, “100 Recovery Act Projects that are Changing America.” Number 18 on the list is Lost Creek Wind Farm in DeKalb County, Missouri, which received a $107 million grant from the Department of Energy. And it just so happens that Lost Creek was founded by Tom Carnahan – Russ’ brother.

But Tom’s history associated with the war against fossil fuels and the world of renewable energy is a short one, beginning in 2005 — the same year his brother entered Congress — when he quit his law practice to start Wind Capital Group LLC to develop wind energy in Missouri. At first, business wasn’t so great, and the Lost Creek project was put on hold. That is, until the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was passed, and along with it, the establishment of the Department of Energy’s loan guarantee program.

The DSCC's decision to scale back its ad campaign in Pennsylvania is likely due to the fact that Democrats are now being forced to spend money on other competitive races in states like West Virginia.

France Imposes Fiscal Restraint

France Wednesday presented a 2011 budget relying on the end of stimulus measures and a freeze in the value of state spending to trim its bloated public deficit to the maximum 3% of gross domestic product allowed under euro-zone treaties by 2013.
 Finance Minister Christine Lagarde and Budget Minister Francois Baroin said the effort, which will cut the public deficit from a record 7.7% of GDP this year to 6% of GDP next year based on a projected 2% growth in output for 2011, is unprecedented.

"Never has such a deficit-reduction effort been undertaken."

A new poll by Sunshine State News shows Republican Daniel Webster leading Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson by 7 points in Central Florida's 8th Congressional District.

Webster, a former state senator, tops the freshman congressman 43-36 in the survey conducted this week.

TEA Party candidate Peg Dunmire drew 6 percent and George Metcalfe, running with no party affiliation, garnered 3 percent. Nine percent remained undecided.

Grayson appears to have an uphill battle as the poll showed the congressman with a 51 percent unfavorable rating with the poll's 559 respondents.
Only 51% disapproval? How big an asshole do you have to be before you have 100% disapproval? 

Nancy Pelosi Refills The Swamp

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised four years ago that Democrats would lead “the most honest, most open, most ethical Congress in history.”
But as her party defends its record with its majority in jeopardy, two prominent Democrats await ethics trials. Two other party members gave Congressional Black Caucus Foundation scholarships to relatives. Most importantly, lobbyists, corporations and special interests still have unimpeded ways to buy access to members of Congress.

Chris Coons Promises To Be Harry Reid's Pet

With most Democrats running from their party affiliation, Chris Coons is promising Delaware's voters that he will live down to Harry Reid's expectation's.
[T]his week, Coons sent a fundraising e-mail suggesting that he would be a reliable Democratic vote in a lame-duck session this winter. (Since the Delaware Senate contest is a special election to fill the seat that Vice-President Joe Biden vacated after the 2008 election, the winner will be seated immediately instead of in January.)

Obama Attacks Fox News

He won't criticize the Ground Zero Victory mosque promoters for exercising their First Amendment freedoms, but he'll attack Fox News.
In this month’s cover story for Rolling Stone magazine, President Obama weighs in on the cable network Fox News, saying that while he can’t object to the network carrying out its constitutional right to freedom of the press, he thinks it promotes a perspective that is “ultimately destructive for the long-term growth” of America.
“Look, as president, I swore to uphold the Constitution, and part of that Constitution is a free press,” Obama laughed, in response to a question from Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner about whether or not Fox News was “a good institution for America and for democracy.”
We’ve got a tradition in this country of a press that oftentimes is opinionated. The golden age of an objective press was a pretty narrow span of time in our history. Before that, you had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints,” Mr. Obama said. “I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view.”

If You Can't Govern, Entertain

The Washington Examiner notes that the Democrats can't (or won't) pass a budget and has shelved other difficult votes. But the can book comedians.
This year the Democratic leadership of the House and Senate made a strategic decision not to pass a budget for the federal government. They feared their spending priorities might not win the approval of voters in November's elections, so they simply opted out of their budgetary responsibility.

More recently, the Democratic leadership made a strategic decision not to decide whether to extend the Bush tax cuts, which are set to expire Dec. 31. If nothing is done, taxes will rise for every American who pays income tax. But, as with the budget, Democrats worried that raising at least some taxes might not win voter approval, so they left the most pressing economic decision of the moment unresolved.

Finally, last Friday, Democrats in the House invited comedian Stephen Colbert to testify, in character as a buffoonish right-wing anchorman, before an otherwise serious hearing on migrant farm workers.

This compares to a 51 – 45 percent Blumenthal lead in a September 14 likely voter survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll, conducted by live interviewers.

Republican John Raese has edged ahead of West Virginia’s popular Democratic Governor Joe Manchin for the first time in the state’s special U.S. Senate race.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely West Virginia Voters finds Raese earning 48% support to Manchin’s 46% when leaners are included. Two percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

In a rare and blunt criticism of education in the nation's capital, President Obama on Monday called D.C. Public Schools a "struggling" system that doesn't measure up to the needs of first daughters Sasha and Malia.
The president's remarks came one day after Education Secretary Arne Duncan also got publicly involved in matters related to D.C. schools, stating his latest praise for embattled D.C. schools Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee.
However, he also implicitly backed a principal criticism of Ms. Rhee pushed by backers of D.C. Council Chairman Vincent C. Gray, almost certain to be the city's next mayor. His remarks also prompted a D.C. school board member to tell him to "butt out" of managing local schools.

The U.S. government said Sunday it made an "honest mistake" when it displayed an inverted Philippine flag — which wrongfully signified that the Southeast Asian nation was in a state of war — in a meeting hosted by President Barack Obama.


The Philippine flag was displayed upside down behind President Benigno Aquino III when leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations met Obama in New York on Friday.

"This was an honest mistake," U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Rebecca Thompson said in a statement, adding, "the U.S. treasures its close relationship and close partnership with the Philippines."

Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez says she didn’t intend to offend anyone when she told a reporter that “the Vietnamese” and Republicans were trying to take her seat representing California’s Orange County.
Sanchez said Friday she “used a poor choice of words that some people have taken as offensive” in a Spanish-language interview with Jorge Ramos on Univision’s Sunday morning show, “Al Punto.” She said she apologizes if she offended anyone.
She also referred to her opponent, Republican Assemblyman Van Tran, as “very anti-immigrant and very anti-Hispanic,” in the interview.

Democratic candidates across the country are opening a fierce offensive of negative advertisements against Republicans, using lawsuits, tax filings, reports from the Better Business Bureau and even divorce proceedings to try to discredit their opponents and save their congressional majority.
Opposition research and attack advertising are deployed in almost every election, but these biting ads are coming far earlier than ever before, according to party strategists. The campaign has intensified in the past two weeks as early voting begins in several states and as vulnerable incumbents try to fight off an onslaught of influences by outside groups.

John Kerry Democrat Memory Syndrome Afflicts Five More Democrats

It's an epidemic. Five Democratic House members running for re-election are claiming to have voted against the Trouble Assets Relief Program, even though they weren't even in office when the vote was taken. This is reminiscent of John Kerry's recollection of a secret mission to Cambodia, ordered by Richard Nixon, on Christmas Day, 1968. It was "seared, SEARED" into his memory. There area  lot of problems with this story. One problem. Richard Nixon wasn't president on Christmas Day 1968.
According to their reelection campaign ads, Democratic Reps. Kathy Dahlkemper, Frank Kratovil, Dina Titus, Mary Jo Kilroy, and Glenn Nye all voted against the Wall Street bailout. Which is fascinating, since, as FactCheck.org pointed out a few weeks ago, none of them were in office when the bailout was passed.
The bailout, otherwise known as the Trouble Asset Relief Program (TARP), was passed as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which President Bush signed into law on October 3, 2008. Dahlkemper, Kratovil, Titus, Kilroy, and Nye didn’t take office until January of 2009.

DOJ Racism Leaks Through The Cracks

Will this be the start? The Black Panther story was not just a stain on the Obama Administration, but also a stain on the mainstream media, which has refused to raise this issue to the prominence it deserves. Imagine, for example, Robert Byrd's old Ku Klux Klan tribe trying to frighten blacks away from a polling place.
Christopher Coates's testimony before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights was the latest fallout from the department's handling of a 2008 voter-intimidation case involving the New Black Panther Party. Conservatives and some congressional Republicans accuse Justice officials of improperly narrowing the charges, allegations that they strongly dispute.
Filed weeks before the Obama administration took office, the case focused on two party members who stood in front of a polling place in Philadelphia on Election Day 2008, one carrying a nightstick. The men were captured on video and were accused of trying to discourage some people from voting.
Coates, former head of the voting section that brought the case, testified in defiance of his supervisor's instructions and has been granted whistleblower protection. Coates criticized what he called the "gutting" of the New Black Panthers case for "irrational reasons," saying the decision was part of "deep-seated" opposition among the department's leaders to filing voting-rights cases against minorities and cases that protect whites. 
This isn't the only effort by the Justice Department to selectively enforce the law based upon race. The Obama DOJ has also refused to enforce provisions of the Motor Voter Act, because doing so would limit Democrat vote fraud efforts.

Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer said he will back Democrat Andrew Cuomo come November, but it sure didn’t sound like much of an endorsement.
“Everybody knows that behind the scenes that he’s the dirtiest, nastiest political player out there,” Spitzer said of Cuomo Thursday.
 Gee! Considering that we are talking about a Democrat, I'd say that that was his endorsement. The only omission from a perfect Democratic candidate's resume' would be an extra-marital sex scandal.

At Least Robert Kennedy's Son Remembers That Bill Ayers Is A Terrorist


When retiring University of Illinois at Chicago professor Bill Ayers co-wrote a book in 1973, it was dedicated in part to Sirhan Sirhan, the assassin of Robert F. Kennedy.

That came back to haunt Ayers when the U. of I. board, now chaired by Kennedy’s son, considered his request for emeritus status Thursday. It was denied in a unanimous vote. 

Before the vote, an emotional Chris Kennedy spoke out against granting the status to Ayers.
“I intend to vote against conferring the honorific title of our university to a man whose body of work includes a book dedicated in part to the man who murdered my father, Robert F. Kennedy,” he said.


“There is nothing more antithetical to the hopes for a university that is lively and yet civil, or to the hopes of our founding fathers for their great experiment of a self-governing people, than to permanently seal off debate with one’s opponents by killing them.”

What a concept! If only our president and his press allies understood this.

The Abandonment Of Molly Norris

“There is no more Molly.”

I think that was one of the more depressing news headlines I’ve ever read. There’s a very good chance that you don’t know who Molly Norris is. That’s because it is part of our mainstream news media culture that people like imam Faisal Abdul Rauf are painted as victims because a large majority of Americans oppose his Ground Zero mosque. But few people know who Molly Norris is because her story doesn’t fit the preferred narrative.

Molly Norris is a Seattle area artist and the creative mind behind “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day.” After a few artists were threatened with death for daring to draw caricatures of the Islamic prophet Mohammed, and after Comedy Central censored its own programming so as not to run afoul of Islam, she proposed that everybody should create and publish their own interpretations of Mohammed, reasoning that if death threats created more blasphemers than they managed to frighten away, the threats would lose their power and the imams behind them would be left impotent. As demonstrated by Comedy Central and just about every newspaper and broadcast news outlet, nothing gains respect for a religion better than a credible threat of violence. Molly Norris sought to disarm the terrorists.

But today, Molly Norris is in hiding because imam Anwar al-Awlak, an American born Muslim who now operates his own terror network out of Yemen, pronounced a death penalty upon Ms. Norris for her own “Everybody draw Mohammed Day” cartoon, which she drew to show that she was willing to put her own cajones where her mouth was.

It’s worth taking a trip down memory lane to learn who imam Anwar al-Awlak is. All you need to know can be found in the New York Times. The New York Times is widely considered the voice of our self-anointed cognitive elites. The Times editorial board views itself as America’s scold in chief, forever pointing its bony finger of indignation at American commoners for relying upon their common sense. In October 2001, shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the New York Times described imam Anwar al-Awlak as part of “a new generation of Muslim leader capable of merging East and West."

That miscalculation hasn’t stopped the Times from bestowing their most recent endorsement for that honor upon imam Faisal Abdul Rauf this summer. Imam Rauf is better known as the guiding light behind the Ground Zero mosque.

Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf has had the Times, Barack Hussein Obama, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the rest of the Democratic Party standing shoulder to shoulder defending his First Amendment right to offend American sensibilities. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi even threatened critics of the mosque with a star chamber-like Congressional investigation for daring to exercise their own First Amendment rights in a manner that she found distasteful.

Does it seem the least bit odd that imam Rauf is more deserving of public defense than Molly Norris? The most likely explanation is that our leftist elite have all bought into the proposition, composed by imam Rauf and published on the New York Times’ opinion page that, if America wants to avoid future terrorist attacks, then she needs to give in to the demands of imam Rauf.

Based upon this reasoning, the primary difference between a radical Muslim and a “moderate” Muslim, such as Rauf, is that the radicals commit the acts of terrorism, while the moderates follow along like ambulance chasers to exploit the environment of fear that follows. And as imam Anwar al-Awlak has shown, there’s not much of a firewall between the two.

Rather than step up for Molly Norris and pound their hairy chests in outrage as they did for imam Rauf, all that the government has done for Ms Norris is to help her get a new identity and go into hiding, possibly for the rest of her life. She is, “going ghost,” in the words of the FBI specialists handling her case.

How is it that our elite can throw their considerable weight behind the oafish, ham-handed Faisal Abdul Rauf and ignore the plight of an American who exhibited a creativity and courage beyond any of their aptitudes? A woman who stands up to bullies and upholds the finest principles of Jeffersonian liberalism should not now find herself isolated. The silence of the leftist elite is disgraceful and says far more about them than their defense of the Ground Zero mosque.

Elizabeth Warren Scared By The First Amendment

Barack Hussein Obama has appointed yet another enemy of free speech.
Remember the MSM brouhaha when some conservatives suggested reconsidering the automatic granting of citizenship to children born in the US to illegal immigrants? Suddenly, the sanctity of the 14th Amendment became the single most precious thing to liberals—even though no amendment of it, let alone its abolition, would have been necessary to revise the policy on birthright citizenship.

So should we expect the liberal media to take up its constitutional cudgel against Elizabeth Warren? After all, Pres. Obama's newly appointed [not nominated] head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau went on Morning Joe today and in effect proclaimed that the right to petition government for the redress of government "scares" her. More disturbingly, Warren suggested we need to work on "dialing back" that right.

Jesse Jackson Jr. doesn't deny involvement with a Washington D.C. based restaurant hostess who was named this morning in a Sun-Times story about his alleged attempt to buy an appointment to President Obama's former Senate seat.

Jackson Jr. allegedly had a relationship with Giovana Huidobro, a restaurant hostess and former model whose pictures can be seen here, and asked that fund-raiser Raghuveer Nayak pay for her to be flown from D.C. to Chicago on at least two occasions.

"The reference to a social acquaintance is a personal and private matter between me and my wife that was handled some time ago." Jackson Jr. said in a statement. "I ask that you respect our privacy."

Did the Obama administration force editing changes to Charlie Savage's page-one lead piece today on the appeals court ruling on CIA torture?

It sure looks that way, from some quiet but substantial editing that took place after Savage's story first went online late yesterday.

The story reported on a federal Appeals Court ruling in favor of the Obama Administration's efforts to prevent lawsuits alleging torture against the C.I.A., on the grounds that they would reveal government secrets.

In the story that went up on the NYT website yesterday -- and which remains posted on the Charlotte Observer website -- Savage noted that the administration's counterterrorism policies "have in some ways departed from the expectations of change" promised by Obama during the campaign.

Verified: New York Times Is A Crappy Newspaper

In the span of 48 hours, the New York Times was blasted for a story a White House official deemed to be “100% inaccurate,” and then embarrassed by a dishy new book by former car czar Steven Rattner that describes how the White House orchestrated an exclusive background interview with him and a Times reporter, and was rewarded with an article showing President Barack Obama “just as the White House had hoped.”

Such extreme and contradictory views of the Times – that it is both poorly-sourced and wrongly-informed as well as a spun lapdog tamed by special access – are one consequence of the complex relationship the nation‘s most important newspaper has with a White House famous for running a ruthlessly tight media ship.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid just scheduled a vote on the DISCLOSE Act, which would force donors to publish their involvement in political ad campaigns, for Thursday.

Why not tomorrow, you might ask? Because there are no votes in the Senate scheduled for [Wednesday]. And that may be, in part, because there’s something else going on [Wednesday]: A big New York fundraiser for the Senate Democrats.

Harry Reid Has The Hots!

For Kristin Gillibrand! At least he didn't call her his pet. A well, when you consider what Democrats usually have to choose from.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had an unusual form of praise for New York's junior senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, this morning at the fundraiser Mayor Bloomberg hosted for him at his townhouse - referring to her as "the hottest member" as she sat just a few feet away, according to three sources.

The comment prompted Gillibrand to turn red, according to the sources, and created a bit of stir among the small crowd there.

"It was pretty shocking when he said it," said one source familiar with the remark and the reaction.

A Reid spokesman confirmed it happened, but also noted that the Democratic Majority Leader also praised Gillibrand for her work.

Grim Milestone

Obama's election put an end to the mainstream media's endless list of Grim Milestones. But we just suffered our deadliest year in the war and there are more than two months remaining. If George Bush were still president, that would qualify as a Grim Milestone.
NATO helicopter crashed in southern Afghanistan today, killing nine service members, The Associated Press reported. Cause of the crash is currently under investigation, but the Taliban has already claimed to have shot it down.

The incident was the worst chopper crash for coalition forces in four years, and marked 2010 as the deadliest year of the Afghan War for foreign troops, Reuters reported. So far this year, 525 U.S. and NATO troops have been killed in Afghanistan, surpassing the 504 killed last year.

It turns out that the Ground Zero Victory mosque is almost as unpopular in the Arab world as it is in the United States.

From his recent travels to the Persian Gulf—sponsored and paid for by the State Department—Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf returned with a none-too-subtle threat. His project, the Ground Zero Mosque, would have to go on. Its cancellation would risk putting "our soldiers, our troops, our embassies and citizens under attack in the Muslim world."

Leave aside the attempt to make this project a matter of national security. The self-appointed bridge between America and the Arab-Islamic world is a false witness to the sentiments in Islamic lands.

The truth is that the trajectory of Islam in America (and Europe for that matter) is at variance with the play of things in Islam's main habitat. A survey by Elaph, the most respected electronic daily in the Arab world, gave a decided edge to those who objected to the building of this mosque—58% saw it as a project of folly.

The Best Five Minutes Of My Life

Rick Santelli made the best use of his 15 minutes of fame, with 10 minutes left over.

"The five-minute rant was the best five minutes of my life," Santelli tells reporter Abdon Pallasch. "But beyond that, really four minutes in time, it's the Tea Party. My wife pointed out to me, 'You were there for the insemination, but you were not there to raise the child.'"

Harry Reid's Pet Is A Radical Communist

While the mainstream media worry about whether or not Christine O'Donnell pretended that she was a witch in high school, her opponent has an easily traceable record as a "bearded communist."
While he had no problem questioning America, apparently Coons was unwilling to question socialism, the South African Council of Churches, liberation theory, Black Liberation Theory, James Cone, Jeremiah Wright or the socialist principles of the Kairos Document. In fact, he said not a word about any of these things to Politico, much less is he saying anything to Delaware voters. Which is why, presumably, Harry Reid refers to Coons as his "pet." Perhaps more should be seen in Coons' statement that his experiences in Africa "warned me that my own favorite beliefs in the miracles of free enterprise and the boundless opportunities to be had in America were largely untrue."

Democrats Start Vote Fraud Drive

If you can't win votes, forge them.

Every two years for the past decade and more, reports of voter fraud have been on the increase during election campaigns around the country. That is not coincidental.

Since passage in 1993 of the National Voter Registration Act - aka "Motor Voter" - by the Democratic Congress that led to the 1994 GOP takeover, ACORN and a bunch of other radical liberal activists groups, many financed by George Soros, have been steadily growing their ability to increase vote counts for their candidates by stuffing ballot boxes with illegal votes on election day.

Opposition Equals Obstructionism

Crying "obstructionism" is a tradition for Senate majority leaders, and Harry Reid does it as frequently and piously as anyone. But Reid, with the cooperation of a news media confused by the upper chamber's rules, has defined "obstructionism" down, and this week is blaming conservative Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., for blocking a bill even though Reid hasn't even tried to move it yet.

NPR Plays The Race Card

Andrew Breitbart's exposure of Eleanor Holmes Norton's unethical, heavy handed fundraising from lobbyist is categorized as going "after another black woman."
As many hardcore political news consumers know by now, conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart went after another black woman who earned her stripes in the Civil Rights movement this week.

He posted a voicemail Eleanor Holmes Norton, Washington, D.C.'s delegate in Congress, left for a lobbyist in which she solicited a campaign contribution.

If Eleanor Holmes Norton's skin color has anything to do with this, it would descend from her presumption her race would shield her from the same level of scrutiny that a politician of pallor would have to endure. As NPR demonstrates in its first paragraph, the liberal establishment media is still nurturing this notion.

Obama Edits The Declaration Of Independence

Now it's The Creator who is thrown under the bus. No reason to suffer through another banal Obama speech. Just jump ahead to 22:30.



Here's the paragraph as originally composed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Does Obama Believe In The First Amendment For Non-Muslims?

James Taranto asks a very fair question.
Where is President Obama? Last month, speaking to a mostly Muslim audience at the White House, the president strongly defended the right of another imam held up as a moderate to build a mosque adjacent to Ground Zero. The next day, and again at a press conference last week, Obama said he was merely standing up for the First Amendment. As far as we recall, it's the only time Barack Obama has ever stood up for anybody's First Amendment rights.

Now Molly Norris, an American citizen, is forced into hiding because she exercised her right to free speech. Will President Obama say a word on her behalf? Does he believe in the First Amendment for anyone other than Muslims?

Lisa Murkowski's Tin Ear

Before announcing her write in campaign, Lisa Murkowski consulted her core constituency - lobbyists.

Less than an hour before Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski planned to announce a write-in campaign to retain her seat, her top aide e-mailed scores of the most prominent lobbyists in Washington to ask them to join a Saturday conference call with the senator.

Murkowski, who was defeated unexpectedly in the Republican primary last month by attorney Joe Miller, announced Friday evening that she will mount a write-in campaign to try to keep her seat.

The Crumbling Stonewall

How much longer can Barack Hussein Obama and the mainstream news media smother the New Black Panther voter intimidation scandal? Maybe not much longer.

It is about to get harder for both the Obama administration and the mainstream media to downplay the New Black Panther party scandal.

The mainstream media did their best to ignore this blatant case of voter intimidation by two New Black Panther party members at a Philadelphia polling place on Election Day 2008. Though the threatening behavior was captured on videotape, Obama political appointees dismissed the case on the eve of a default judgment. When in early June a key trial team member, Justice Department attorney J. Christian Adams, resigned and then testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, the media grudgingly reported on his testimony.

But, despite Adams’s testimony that the case was indicative of a widespread aversion in the Voting Section to colorblind enforcement of the civil rights laws, the media framed the story as an isolated case unworthy of continuing coverage. After all, just one witness was claiming that this was the mindset in the Justice Department. And besides, the head of the Civil Rights Division, Thomas Perez, had testified before both Congress and the commission that the case was legally and factually defective. He had also insisted there was no opposition in the department to enforcing civil rights laws against minority defendants.

In fact, there is ample evidence, including Justice Department emails obtained by The Weekly Standard, that Perez testified untruthfully.

Rick Sanchez Wrote A Book?

Truthfully, I doubt he's ever read one. But judging his book's sales figures, either he's not a popular as he imagines or his fans are as illiterate as he is. Probably both.

Rick Sanchez been on the air promoting Conventional Idiocy a lot recently – 36 times in the last three weeks.

So how did the book sell? According to numbers Mediaite obtained from Bookscan, Sanchez’ book sold 802 copies in its first week.

The Bookscan number is generally the accept metric in the book world, although it doesn’t cover the entire marketplace. The number could be more like 1,000.

Maxine Waters Even More Corrupt Than Thought

The ethics charges against her already made her look pretty sleazy. It turns out that they only scratched the surface.

Congress adjusted the law and regulators broke with customary practices, despite an explicit internal warning that the bank was in financial trouble. Among other exceptions, the bank was allowed to count as part of its capital $12 million in federal bailout money – before the aid arrived.

OneUnited was the only bank to receive all of these considerations among the 707 recipients of money from the Troubled Assets Relief Program, according to documents and interviews.

A close look at how OneUnited – which is now at the center of an ethics investigation involving Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) – won bailout money shows how the Treasury Department, federal regulators and another influential lawmaker helped it despite its record of bad investments and extravagant spending.

Pathetic Vindictive Loser Pitches A Temper Tantrum

If she can't have Alaska's senate seat, then no Republican can. Lisa Murkowski aims to torpedo Joe Miller's campaign.

“There’s a lot of naysayers … They tell me that this can’t be done, that this is a ‘futile effort’,” Murkowski said. “Well perhaps it’s time they met one Republican woman who won’t quit on Alaska.”

Murkowski also showed an eagerness to fight hand to hand with Miller over the next six weeks.

“We cannot accept the extremist views of Joe Miller,” she said, admitting that she did not “swing back” when under attack in the primary, but promising to do so with relish now.

“The gloves are off,” she said.

Butch Otter Could Do With Less Accountability

I guess it’s understandable that, as a card carrying member of the Ruling Class, Butch Otter would have problems with the 17th Amendment to the United States Constitution. After all, giving citizens the right to elect their senators has cost a couple of the Ruling Class’s charter members their jobs recently. Them rubes is gettin’ uppity.

On several occasions in the last year, Idaho governor Butch Otter has demonstrated his famously tin ear by expressing his dissatisfaction with the 17th Amendment. He has even made his case for the repeal of the Amendment at a Tea Party rally in Spokane. Apparently Otter didn’t get the memo that the Tea Party doesn’t trust politicians all that much. And they are unlikely to look favorably on a politician who wishes to further insulate the Ruling Class from the people’s judgment. What sort of stone head would stand before the Tea Party and tell them that they should be further disenfranchised and the Ruling Class further empowered?

The 17th Amendment, passed in 1913 gave citizens the right to elect their US senators directly. Prior to that, senators were chosen by state legislatures. The original reason for legislative appointments was to temper the anticipated volatility of the House of Representatives. However, the House of Representatives has grown nearly as fossilized as the Senate. I doubt that anyone who helped author the original Constitution could have imagined that anyone would want to spend generations in that cesspool.

Now it’s true that citizens have made some ghastly decisions in their votes. After all, Washington’s senior senator is Patty Murray. But what evidence is there that the Washington State legislature would have done any better? And as nutty as the average California voter is, the assembly it keeps returning to office is at least twice as crazy. Were they in charge, California would have two Barbara Boxers. Or, more likely, California would try to appoint five Barbara Boxers and borrow representation against future generations.

Alaska’s Senator Lisa Murkowski certainly wishes that the authority for appointing senators were still in the hands of the legislature. She gained her seat in the US Senate the old fashioned way – through appointment. And if the legislature still made such appointments, she’d probably be looking forward to a second term. Her father chose her to fill his unexpired term when he won the governor’s office. He was eventually retired by Sarah Palin who beat him in the Republican primary. Palin also played a major role in engineering Murkowski’s defeat in the recent Alaskan primary.

I’m certain that a great many in the Ruling Class wish that they could be further removed from the great unwashed. Nevada’s Harry Reid (D-Torchlight) literally can’t stand the smell of his constituents. Christine O’Donnell in Delaware triumphed over the Republican Ruling Class’s choice to succeed Joe Biden. Delaware’s Country Club Republicans anointed liberal Republican Mike Castle to lead them to certain victory in November. This man favors Obama’s Cap and Trade scheme. He earned an F rating from the NRA for his gun control stance. If Christine O’Donnell goes down in flames this November, the fault lies with the Ruling Class Republicans for choosing such an unpalatable candidate.

Butch Otter now claims that he’s all for Idahoans having the right to choose their senators and insists that his expressed interest in repealing the 17th Amendment derives from his reverence for the 10th Amendment. He sees the 17th Amendment as an infringement on states’ rights. I share his desire to resurrect the 10th Amendment, but there are far more egregious extra-constitutional transgressions out there that need to be overturned that would not run afoul of conservative principles.

But as we’re learning lately, the Ruling Class is far more concerned with preserving their prerogatives than defending any party or governing philosophy. The Ruling Class’s instinctive reaction was to ostracize and isolate Christie O’Donnell as punishment for daring to defeat the Republican Party’s chosen heir. The Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee also supplied Lisa Murkowski with legal assistance as she tried to manipulate the absentee ballot count in her favor, following the example set by Al Gore, Christine Gregoire and Al Franken, among others.

When Representative William Jefferson of Louisiana was caught red-handed taking bribes, both parties came together to protect his right to commit any act of corruption in his office.

Reporter Fired For Telling The Truth

This is a bit of news that the mainstream media was not supposed to report.

In his piece, McKelway said the sparsely attended event attracted protesters "largely representing far-left environmental groups." [He cited Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.] He went on to say the protest "may be a risky strategy because the one man who has more campaign contributions from BP than anybody else in history is now sitting in the Oval Office, President Barack Obama, who accepted $77,051 in campaign contributions from BP."

After a brief taped segment updating efforts to cap the BP well, McKelway added that the Senate was unlikely to pass "cap-and-trade" legislation this year, because "the Democrats are looking at the potential for huge losses in Congress come the midterm elections. And the last thing they want to do is propose a huge escalation in your electric bill, your utility bill, before then."

Wall Street Democrats

While sharing the bed with Wall Street, Democrats manage to criticize Republicans for Wall Street ties.

Talking tough about Wall Street — its role in causing the financial crisis, its links to candidates and its vigorous opposition to the need for stricter government oversight — is a major part of the Democrats' midterm election theme that Republicans want to return to policies that caused the economic mess, said Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), who heads the House Democrats' campaign efforts.

In California, Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer has accused Republican Carly Fiorina of behaving like a Wall Street executive when she headed Hewlett-Packard Corp. Democrat Ami Bera hits the Central Valley lawmaker he's trying to unseat, Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Gold River), for lobbying for former Wall Street investment bank Bear Stearns, which was one of his clients while working for a Washington, D.C., law firm.
