The Navy of the Future

The Navy of the Future

Assuming that no one as irresponsible as John Kerry is elected president, ship designs that have not changed much in 100 years will be replaced by new models.

The days of clashes between great navies is long passed. Ships primarily provide firing platform for ground troop support these days and the next generation of ships will have to reflect that change.

The US Navy is designing these new ships. They are highly automated and require much smaller crews. Carbon composites replace steel. And they are formed to deflect radar and to conceal heat signatures from enemy missiles. And, they can pour firepower on an enemy freeing armies from having to haul their own howitzers around.
