For instance, Professor Emeritus Nick Gier (Philosophy, University of Idaho) argues that there's no difference between the Taliban and conservative Presbyterians in Moscow.

As I've always said: as soon as Bob Jones University graduates start flying jets into skyscrapers or strapping bombs onto themselves, then Gier can make that argument.
But as it stands, it makes for a convenient, liberal straw man argument -- standard practice for Moscow's liberals.
