Tom Harkin, Imperious Elitist

Tom Harkin, Imperious Elitist

Remember Tom Harkin? When he ran for president a few years back, he always made a big show of taking off his jacket and tie for the cameras. He wasn't one of those Washington insiders! He was a man of the people - the quintessential common man.
Of course that was all a bunch of Barbra Streisand.
Now we have a fine example of where Tom Harkin views his place in the hierarchy of humanity when he scooted around a long line of travelers waiting to be searched at the airport.
Naturally, his office assures us that it was not as it appeared.
"He was supposed to be on the 10:30 a.m. Midwest Express direct flight to Des Moines, and he had a full schedule of events there," Dobson said. "If he missed that flight, he would have had to cancel a full day of meetings with officials. There were a lot of people who would have been disappointed." Dobson added that as the senator marched to the front of the line in full view of his lessers, he realized that he was risking exposure. "But we were more worried about getting the job done for the people of Iowa than about getting a call from a gossip columnist."
