Tell Me Why The Left has Adopted the Palestinians

Why does the left so adore the Palestinians? They violate ever tenet of modern liberalism. They racist, intolerant, sexist, and they raise their children to be gun nuts. My own theory is that the Lefties are simply anti-Western civilization and the Palestinians are just their latest vehicle they are riding to attack all that is civilized.
