Much Ado About Nothing

Much Ado About Nothing

Democrats seem to be realizing that they've pump a lot of hot air over a coal with no sparks.

"WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 — Sensing a possible backlash over the disclosure of the name of an undercover CIA officer, congressional Democrats on Wednesday canceled a briefing from the officer’s husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson."

and, In Congress, House Democratic aides cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for canceling Wilson’s briefing, but acknowledged that the political firestorm had gotten too hot.
“I don’t think Democrats want to fuel the partisan fire,” one aide told NBC’s Norah O’Donnell. “Why undermine his credibility and give the Republicans more fuel for the fodder? Why give them ammunition?”

They may have read this morning's Washington Post in which Wilson makes clear that he's a partisan, left-wing publicity hound, in it for the money and the celebrity.

Money quote: "As the world now knows, Wilson is married to Valerie Wilson, nee Plame. She is his third wife. She is 40, slim, blonde and the mother of their 3-year-old twins. In the photos in his office, she has the looks of a film star.

"She is really quite amazing," Wilson said. "We were just discussing today who would play her in the movie," he cracked."

And, the man whose column sparked all this furor, Robert Novak seems to put the whole conspiracy theory to rest with this column today.

No wonder Democrats are running for cover. As the great one noted, "the Democrats just keep opening doors into the noses."
