Now that oil prices have gotten entirely out of hand, the door is wide open for alternative fuels. Brazil is ideally situated for exploiting this, with 30 year old biofuel industry, and they are. But we can do it too.
Nothing produces more energy per acre than sugar beets. And, sugar beets do not require a tropical climate to thrive. Even North Dakota can produce 7000 pounds of sugar per acre.
