I think Bill Clinton's selfish focus on trying to write his own history is to blame for all this. Clinton was so focused on his legacy that he essentially invited attacks on it. Democrats have since responded by attacking Bush's legacy to the detriment of the country's best interests. Who in their right mind really thinks that a humiliating surrender in the war on terror would serve the country?

And now, many Republicans see the upcoming election primarily in terms of poking Slick Willie in the eye one more time. Of course, Bill Clinton thinks the upcoming election is all about him anyway.
