Arkansas Democratic Extinction

This is amazing because Democrats have so corrupted the electoral system down there that a friend of mine, who is a good solid Republican, had to change his registration to Democrat before he was allowed to run for mayor.

The last time Republicans had full control of the Arkansas congressional delegation, a battle-ravaged United States was picking up the pieces from the Civil War.

Now, with the retirement of Democratic Rep. Mike Ross, the GOP is well positioned to once again sweep all four of the state’s House seats, giving the party domination in a state that has long been a Democratic power center in the South.

Once home to prominent and long-serving Democratic figures like J. William Fulbright, Dale Bumpers and David Pryor and the launching pad for Bill Clinton’s political career, Arkansas is emerging as a Republican congressional stronghold.

“There’s no denying that Republicans have been making gains all over the country, but in Arkansas it’s been a remarkable thing,” said Bumpers, who spent more than two decades in the Senate and who served a term as governor.

The Democratic power drain is taking place across the Arkansas ballot. Last year, then-Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln was trounced in her bid for reelection and Democrats lost two congressional seats, seven seats in the state Senate and more than a dozen seats in the state House.
