A Desperate Harry Reid Attacks the Koch Brothers

After capturing power in 2008, the Democratic Party gave us the stimulus package (a total failure). The gave us Obamacare, a failure of such proportions that Democratic pollster Celinda Lake urged her party’s candidates to run from it this fall. They have given us a childishly naive foreign policy, which has given us the so-called “Arab Spring” with all its horrors, and enabled a newly aggressive Russian imperialism.

Considering the extravagant promises that were made, I would call that a colossal failure.

Democrats have given us “green energy” policy that has imposed higher energy prices, higher food prices, and a string of government-underwritten bankruptcies.

Student loan debt has surpassed one trillion dollars and unemployment for college graduates hovers at an historic high.

The International Monetary Fund predicts that China will surpass the US as the world’s largest economy before Obama leaves office.

Mission accomplished!

Since Obama’s election, the percentage of Americans who qualify as long-term unemployed has nearly doubled. And, if that weren’t bad enough, a new study produced by Princeton economists, and published by the left-leaning Brookings institution, predicts that, if you fall into that category, then there’s a strong probability that you’ll never find work again.

Democratic occupation of the executive branch has given us the Fast and Furious gun smuggling scandal. It has given us an Internal Revenue Service that targets and harasses Obama’s critics. Obama has spied on our phone calls and emails. He has invoked the Espionage Act more than all previous US presidents combined, and he abused those powers to spy on the Associated Press and Fox News. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius used her office to raise money from companies that her department regulates. Obama’s administration secretly re-wrote Freedom of Information Act laws to give itself the power to deny FOIA requests for entirely political purposes. Obama’s Department of Justice is easily the most politicized in history. The Obamatons veiled their incompetence in the Benghazi tragedy with lies about a cruddy YouTube video. Obama has stalled the Keystone XL oil pipeline construction for five years, destroying jobs and maintaining US dependence upon anti-American oil exporting nations. Obama’s Federal Communications Commission tried to insert overseers into newsrooms to monitor editorial decisions. And, Obama has surrendered US supervision of the Internet to despots.

So naturally, Democrats want to change the subject. And so even though income disparity has grown considerably worse under their stewardship, they have chosen to make that their central issue in the upcoming campaign. Are Americans really going to believe that Democrats were innocent bystanders while their standard of living has declined while the Democrats’ biggest contributors have gotten wealthy?

And who are they going to blame for all of this? They’ve committed millions of dollars to attack two libertarian brothers whom most Americans have never heard of, Charles and David Koch. The Koch brothers’ crime is that they seek to restore the Jeffersonian liberalism enshrined in the United States Constitution.

Could anything be more dangerous to the republic?

This strategy is so ludicrous that the only hope of success is that the mainstream news media squanders what shreds of credibility it has left promoting the meme. The Washington Post is eager to help. The Post published an article claiming that the Keystone XL oil pipeline would primarily benefit the Koch brothers. This was demonstrably false as the authors themselves ultimately confessed.

The Koch brothers have correctly identified government over-regulation and crony capitalism as impediments to economic growth. In truth, if it weren’t for the rapid growth in the politically incorrect fossil fuel industry, the United States economy would still be in recession. And the Democrats have declared war on that one viable sector of the economy.

It’s not as though Democrats are opposed to big money in politics. Democrats are ecstatic that billionaire Tom Steyer has pledged to spend $100,000,000 on the upcoming election to fight global warming. And why not? He filled his money bin with federal green energy subsidies. Of course he wants the spigot left open.

Democrats have no objection to George Soros spending money on their behalf. The old Nazi collaborator declared the billion he made by betting against the US economy in 2007-2008 as the highlight of his career as a currency speculator.

The Republicans have to keep the election’s focus on substance. The Democrats’ only hope is to induce Attention Deficit Disorder upon the American people with their sideshows.

Disagreeing with Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid is "Unamerican"

You don't even deserve the protection of the First Amendment.

$100 Billion Bullet Train Won't Meet Expectations

If only someone would invent a practical alternative to bullet trains
Regularly scheduled service on California's bullet train system will not meet anticipated trip times of two hours and 40 minutes between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and are likely to take nearly a half-hour longer, a state Senate committee was told Thursday.

The faster trips were held out to voters in 2008 when they approved $9 billion in borrowing to help pay for the project. Since then, a series of political compromises and planning changes designed to keep the $68-billion line moving ahead have created slower track zones in urban areas.

Putin's Greatest Asset is a Weak and Irresolute West

The wrong man at the right time.
Putin is no master strategist. He’s an aggressive poker player facing weak opposition from a Western world that has become so risk-averse that it would rather fold than call any bluff, no matter how good its cards are. In the end, Putin is a Russian problem, of course, and Russians must deal with how to remove him. He and his repressive regime, however, are supported directly and indirectly by the free world due to this one-way engagement policy. Putin is no Hitler, and there will never be another. But we cannot forget the harsh lessons Hitler taught us about the fatal dangers of appeasing a dictator, of disunity in the face of aggression and of greedily grabbing at an ephemeral peace while guaranteeing a lasting war.

Go Ahead, Enjoy your Cheeseburger

Everything you've been told about saturated fats is wrong.
Many of us have long been told that saturated fat, the type found in meat, butter and cheese, causes heart disease. But a large and exhaustive new analysis by a team of international scientists found no evidence that eating saturated fat increased heart attacks and other cardiac events.

Chow down dude!
The new findings are part of a growing body of research that has challenged the accepted wisdom that saturated fat is inherently bad for you and will continue the debate about what foods are best to eat.

For decades, health officials have urged the public to avoid saturated fat as much as possible, saying it should be replaced with the unsaturated fats in foods like nuts, fish, seeds and vegetable oils.

But the new research, published on Monday in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine, did not find that people who ate higher levels of saturated fat had more heart disease than those who ate less. Nor did it find less disease in those eating higher amounts of unsaturated fat, including monounsaturated fat like olive oil or polyunsaturated fat like corn oil.

The Incestuous Relationship Between the Left and the Press

There is no barrier between left wing advocacy and the mainstream news media.
Jill Zuckman left the Chicago Tribune to be the Secretary of Transportation’s spokesman. She follows in the footsteps of noted reporter David Axelrod who left the Chicago Tribune to help Barack Obama and is now on MSNBC as a pundit.Shailagh Murray is not the only Washington Post reporter to head into the Obama Administration. Douglas Frantz headed to the State Department and Stephen Barr headed to the Labor Department.Over at CNN, their new Chief National Security Correspondent is Jim Sciutto. Sciutto had been ABC News’s Senior Foreign correspondent, then took a job in the Obama Administration as Chief of Staff to Ambassador Gary Locke in China. Many on the left would throw up Tony Snow, who had been the Sunday show host at Fox News and an anchor. But Tony had also been a well known conservative pundit and guest host for Rush Limbaugh before going into the Bush White House. And, even so, for every Tony Show there’s a half dozen liberals doing the same.Let’s keep going though.Chuck Todd at NBC is a former staffer for Democratic Senator Tom Harkin. He is married to a former DNC communicator who left the DNC to start Maverick Strategies, a consulting group designed to get liberals elected.Ruth Marcus, the Editorial Page editor of the Washington Post is married to Barack Obama’s original Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission.David Gregory of Meet the Press is married to the former Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary for Fannie Mae.Over at the Politico, John Harris, who asked a host of loaded and ridiculous questions during the NBC-Politico Debate in the 2012 Republican Primary, is married to the former head of NARAL in Virginia.

Obama is Winning Versus Putin on Soft Power

Try not to laugh.
The White House conceded Sunday night that Russia had full operational control of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine, but senior U.S. officials painted the picture of a weak, soft Russian President Vladimir Putin who stood everything to lose from this point.

" This chapter has proven decisively that when it comes to soft power, the power of attraction, Vladimir Putin has no game," a senior Obama administration official said during a background briefing with reporters Sunday night.

"So he’s left with hard power. And it’s a very dangerous game to play in Ukraine because the Ukrainian people are not going to stand for it, and nor is the international community."

That was the White House's argument on Sunday. Though it said that Russia successfully sent in some 6,000 airborne and ground troops into region around Crimea, in what has the potential to be a larger invasion, U.S. officials said it showed a sign of weakness.

Wrong Again. And Again, and Again, and Again...

The economists whose prognostications are always wrong confess the roots of their failures.
The new report is not solely an admission of error. It is also a catalogue of errors by type. The biggest mistakes, the economists point out, occurred when they forecast growth rates in countries with a relatively high level of government regulation. This surprises the economists, though it won’t surprise anyone who takes a dim view of government regulation generally. The forecasters, good statists all, assumed that the regulations “would help to cushion financial shocks” in the highly regulated countries and would therefore aid recovery.

The economists now say they failed to consider the damaging effects of regulation. In the real world, regulations “delay[ed] necessary reallocations across [economic] sectors in the recovery phase”—which, translated from the Economese, means that government was retarding the ability of businesses to do what they do best: find a way to create value and make money even in calamitous circumstances. The concession is implied, but it’s clear the economists regret letting an ideological assumption in favor of government intervention overwhelm their forecasts as the recession swept the globe, raining on the regulated and unregulated alike.

"These are the Buds of the Socialist Spring"

Ukraine has a good reason to fear Moscow.
In January 1933, Stalin, writes Snyder, sealed Ukraine’s borders so peasants could not escape and sealed the cities so peasants could not go there to beg. By spring, more than 10,000 Ukrainians were dying each day, more than the 6,000 Jews who perished daily in Auschwitz at the peak of extermination in the spring of 1944.

Obama Lies about Obamacare

Again.

No. If you liked your doctor you won't be able to keep him. Pay close attention at the 1:10 mark.

Five Things that National Geographic's "Cosmos" got Wrong

If you were like me, and had never heard of Giordano Bruno contributions to science, it's because he never made them.
Bruno only agreed with Copernicus because he worshiped the Egyptian God Thoth and believed in Hermetism and its adoration of the sun as the center of the universe. Both Hermes and Thoth were gods of…magic.

The church and science did not agree with Bruno that pygmies came from a “second Adam” or that native Americans had no souls, but they were also not going to kill him over it. There is no evidence his “science” came up at any time. He was imprisoned for a decade because the church wanted him to just recant his claims that Hermetism was the one true religion and then they could send him on his way. When he spent a decade insisting it was fact, he was convicted of Arianism and occult practices, not advocating science. It was discovered shortly after his execution that the “ancient texts” he believed had predicted, among other things, the birth of Jesus Christ, had only been created a century earlier, not at the time of Moses.

Justice Department Shields Corrupt Senators

Thou shalt not mess with Harry Reid. Harry Reid has grown very rich on his Senate salary. The Obama Justice Department doesn't want to know how.
FBI agents working alongside Utah state prosecutors in a wide-ranging corruption investigation have uncovered accusations of wrongdoing by two of the U.S. Senate’s most prominent figures — Majority Leader Harry Reid and rising Republican Sen. Mike Lee — but the Justice Department has thwarted their bid to launch a full federal investigation.

The probe, conducted by one Republican and one Democratic state prosecutor in Utah, has received accusations from an indicted businessman and political donor, interviewed other witnesses and gathered preliminary evidence such as financial records, Congressional Record statements and photographs that corroborate some aspects of the accusations, officials have told The Washington Times and ABC News.

But the Justice Department’s public integrity section — which normally handles corruption cases involving elected figures — rejected FBI agents’ bid to use a federal grand jury and subpoenas to determine whether the accusations are true and whether any federal crimes were committed by state and federal officials.

Obama Knew that the CIA was Spying on Senators

Big Brother. Nixon was an amateur.
The White House knew the CIA was filing a report with the Justice Department that suggested Senate staffers had committed a crime by taking documents from a CIA computer.

White House spokesman Jay Carney on Wednesday said the CIA gave the White House a “heads up” it would file the report, which Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said was an effort to intimidate congressional investigators.

Foreigners Oppose Keystone XL. Putin One of Them?

Half of the comments opposing the Keystone XL came from outside the United States.
Construction of the Keystone XL pipeline has also drawn the attention of a surprising amount of international interest, according to a story in The Washington Post. The State Department received almost 3 million comments on the pipeline during its’ public comment period. The Post reports that half of the 2 million public comments opposing the pipeline came in from foreign nationals.

Best Interests of the US not Considered by Democrats

The Democrats are struggling with the Keystone XL. Which special interest group will they betray?
Democrats are grappling with an election-year dilemma posed by the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

Wealthy party donors are funding candidates who oppose the project — a high-profile symbol of the political debate over climate change. But some of the party's most vulnerable incumbents are pipeline boosters, and whether Democrats retain control of the Senate after the 2014 midterm elections may hinge on them.

The dilemma was highlighted Thursday as President Barack Obama's former national security adviser — and now a consultant to the oil industry — said Obama should approve the pipeline to send Russian President Vladimir Putin a message that "international bullies" can't use energy security as a weapon.

The comments by retired Gen. James Jones came as a top Democratic donor again urged that the pipeline be rejected.

Tom Steyer, a billionaire environmentalist, has vowed to spend $100 million —$50 million of his own money and $50 million from other donors — to make climate change a top-tier issue in the 2014 elections.

"I Don't Know What You Mean By The Russian Reset"

I'd say that John Kerry is just playing dumb. But I don't think he's acting.
