Ted Kennedy's Regrets

Ted Kennedy felt such remorse for killing Mary Jo Kopechne that he just couldn't resist a good joke about it now and then.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy wrote in a memoir being published this month that he made terrible decisions after the 1969 car crash that killed Mary Jo Kopechne, but said he was never romantically involved with her and was haunted by that night for his entire life.

Oh yeah. I believe that. Especially after hearing this.

So far, I read nothing about him regretting his sexual assault on a cocktail waitress or this attempts to subvert US foreign policy through back channel communications with former Soviet dictator Yuri Andropov.

Mary Jo Kopechne Appreciation Day

Forty years ago today, Mary Jo Kopechne's sacrifice saved America from a president who would have been far worse than Jimmy Carter.

I'd feel sorrier for her parents, but they sold their souls, along with the state of Massachusetts.

And, the episode showed that the Kennedys were in fact, royalty within their own state and above the laws that govern the rest of us.

Had she never met Ted Kennedy, she would now be 69 years old.

A quick, clear summary here.
