Obama's Deadline Expires

BFD.

It's showtime, folks! Today's the deadline President Obama imposed on Iran's leaders to give up their nuclear ambitions and be nice.

Not sure if the deadline expires at midnight in Tehran or on Washington time, but the mullahs and President Mahmoud "Mighty Mouse" Ahmadinejad aren't scrambling to give Obama a New Year's Eve smooch.

I suspect that if Mahmoud ignores Obama, then Obama will write another letter.

Barbara Boxer Using Campaign Contributions To Enrich Her Family

It's nice having a senator as your mom.

Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has diverted nearly half a million in contributions from her political action committee to her son’s political consulting firm from 2001 to 2009, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

Boxer and Associates, owned by son Douglas Boxer, has in the last 8 years profited to the tune of $497,409.17, $36,000 of which was from last year alone as the politically-vulnerable Boxer readies for a contentious reelection campaign in the fall. These $36,000 in fees are supplementary to the $141,000 Boxer’s leadership PAC awarded her son in 2008 for fundraising consulting.

She's not alone. Our vice president does the same kind of thing.

It pays to be one of Harry Reid's sons too.

Obama Taking Us To Hyperinflation?

"We have the most potentially inflationary policy I have ever observed in a developed country," said Alan Meltzer, a Fed historian and professor of political economy at the Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business in Pittsburgh.

Jimmy Carter on steroids?

Several indicators are already hinting at that possibility.

Gold reaches record prices

The price of gold, often viewed as a hedge against inflation, has set record after record, peaking above $1,200 an ounce earlier this month before retreating to below $1,100. A recent JPMorgan survey of clients found that 61 percent expected U.S. inflation to be "above target" between 2011 and 2014.

Another consumer confidence survey, published by The Conference Board, showed Americans expect prices to climb a troubling 5.1 percent over the next 12 months.

And Google Trends, a Web search database, shows a sharp spike in the number of U.S. users looking up the word "hyperinflation" in late 2008 and early 2009.

"There is a real risk that inflation expectations will rise above a certain threshold that suggests a loss of credibility of the Fed," said Laurence Meyer, a former Fed governor now at Macroeconomic Advisers in Washington, D.C.

Nine Big Reasons The Mainstream Media Is Dying

Big stories that the MSM didn't think you should know about.

Van Jones, John Holdren, ACORN, Kevin Jennings, Climategate, etc. If you rely upon the blogs for your news, you know this stuff. If you rely upon NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN and the New York Times, then you know nothing or next to nothing.

Muslim Earns His Virgins In Finland

And the media wonders why?

No doubt, it has something to do with Finland's "gun culture."

Finland enjoys a strong tradition of hunting and has a high proportion of gun ownership, with 2 million firearms owned in a nation of 5 million people.

Obama Takes Criticism Bush Did Not

Poor baby.

Eight years ago, a terrorist bomber’s attempt to blow up a transatlantic airliner was thwarted by a group of passengers, an incident that revealed some gaping holes in airline security just a few months after the attacks of Sept. 11. But it was six days before President George W. Bush, then on vacation, made any public remarks about the so-called shoe bomber, Richard Reid, and there were virtually no complaints from the press or any opposition Democrats that his response was sluggish or inadequate.

Well, let's see. Back then, the consensus of opinion was that George Bush actually took terrorism seriously. What this most recent incident revealed was that Barack Obama does not take security seriously.

Flight 253 A Rerun

It turns out that a very similar bombing was attempted a month ago.

Officials say a Somali national tried to board a commercial airliner in Mogadishu last month with powdered chemicals, liquid and a syringe that together could have caused an explosion. The hallmarks bear chilling similarities to the terrorist plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner.

But don't worry. This was an "isolated incident" and the "system worked perfectly."

More Cash Down The Government Motors Rat Hole

Barack Hussein Obama is quietly planning to pour another $3.5 billion into GM.

WASHINGTON — A person with knowledge of the matter says the government is moving ahead on a fresh multibillion dollar cash infusion to stabilize auto financing company GMAC Financial Services.

GMAC, based in Detroit, is instrumental to the operations of automakers General Motors Co. and Chrysler Group LLC. It has already received $12.5 billion in taxpayer money and is 35 percent owned by the federal government.

Obama In Fantasyland

Terrorists? What terrorists?

Former Vice President Dick Cheney accused President Barack Obama on Tuesday of “trying to pretend we are not at war” with terrorists, pointing to the White House response to the attempted sky bombing as reflecting a pattern that includes banishing the term “war on terror” and attempting to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center.

“[W]e are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe,” Cheney said in a statement to POLITICO. “Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war? It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency – social transformation—the restructuring of American society.”

Cheney was joining a chorus of Republicans who have criticized Obama following the Christmas Day attack, in which a Nigerian suspect is accused of trying to blow up a loaded airliner with a bomb stitched into his underwear.

Iranian Tyranny About To Fall?

Khamani's escape plane warming up at the airport.

We can only hope. After all, Dear Leader won't be doing anything to help.

Obama Afraid To Point Finger At Muslims

In a normal world, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab should have raised multiple red warning flags. And it probably would have - if Barack Hussein Obama weren't so frightened of offending Muslims.

"We have agreements with a number of different countries that work with us cooperatively on intelligence matters," says the State Department employee. "A number of the treaties work through our justice departments or foreign offices or intelligence and interior or homeland security agencies. Several departments here in Washington got the information from London and it didn't trigger anything within our own system.

This employee says that despite statements from the Obama Administration, such information was flagged and given higher priority during the Bush Administration, but that since the changeover "we are encouraged to not create the appearance that we are profiling or targeting Muslims. I think career employees were uncomfortable with the Bush procedures and policies and were relieved to not have to live under them any longer."

The Beginning Of CNN's End

They brought this on themselves.

[T]he biggest fall year-to-year went to a cable news outlet – CNN. The network had its best ratings ever last year, when its 2008 election coverage produced big results. This year, down 30%, it ended as the 24th ranked cable channel. MSNBC finished one behind CNN, but only lost 12% of its total viewer average from 2008. And Fox News was up from last year, finishing 5th overall with an increase of 7%.

They went all in with Obama last year and now they're stuck with the narrative.

The Mainstream Media and Climate Science Explained

Our brains filter out unwanted information. Come to think of it, this explains Janet Napolitano.

Over the past few decades, psychologists have dismantled the myth of objectivity. The fact is, we carefully edit our reality, searching for evidence that confirms what we already believe. Although we pretend we’re empiricists — our views dictated by nothing but the facts — we’re actually blinkered, especially when it comes to information that contradicts our theories. The problem with science, then, isn’t that most experiments fail — it’s that most failures are ignored.

Napolitano: No Evidence Of A Larger Plot

Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano assures us that the Christmas Day airliner attack is an isolated incident and not a part of a larger plot.

And you can believe her.

This is not what the terrorist himself says. And of course Al Qaida has declared war on us.

Islamic Terrorist? What Islamic Terrorist?

Obama emerged from his golf vacation yesterday to talk about the Christmas Day attack on an airliner - but there was no evidence that either his heart or his mind accompanied him.

Yesterday, Obama termed Abdulmutallab "an isolated extremist."

Really? Is that all?

The bomber's own father warned US officials in October that his son had fallen in with Islamic radicals.

Abdulmutallab himself reportedly told federal officials he trained with al Qaeda in Yemen -- and, for what it's worth, al Qaeda in Yemen confirms that.

And ABC News reported yesterday that two of Abdulmutallab's Yemeni trainers had been released from Guantanamo Bay to the Saudis in 2007 -- and then set free after (no joke) "art therapy rehabilitation."

Meanwhile, Brian Jenkins of the Rand Corporation reports 12 incidents of Islamist terror either in the United States or involving Americans abroad in 2009, the most in any year since 9/11. (These include the Fort Hood massacre.)

See the trend line?

Obama refuses to.

"Those who would attack our country" is how he described the jihadis -- a formulation he used four times in his brief address.

But if the president refuses to define the enemy, how can he expect America to defend against that enemy?

No wonder Napolitano is so confused.

The System Worked

But only if your system involves incompetent bomb makers and airline passengers who are far more alert than the Secretary Of Homeland Security.

Does "the system" count on all explosive devices smuggled onto international flights not detonating? When Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab set himself on fire while trying to blow up the plane and kill its 278 passengers, a Dutch filmmaker leapt on him, ripped a smoldering object from near his crotch and put it out with his bare hands. Or as Napolitano put it, "Everybody played an important role here."

This is a bizarre division of labor. You carefully pack to avoid any liquids more than 3 ounces. You stand in a security line. You take off your shoes. You get your fingernail clippers confiscated. You run your carry-on bags through an X-ray machine and walk through a metal detector, with an extra wanding if your spare pocket change sets off the alarm. And after all that, it's still your responsibility to subdue the terrorist in the next row trying to set off the pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) secreted on his body.

Obama Learns Nothing

We might be emerging from a recession caused by the bursting of the housing bubble. So why is Obama trying to re-inflate the bubble?

Has President Obama learned nothing from the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-guaranteed mortgage giants? Has he learned nothing from the broader collapse of the housing market, caused in large part by the rotten mortgage securities that these two firms churned out and sold to investors over the last decade?

Instead of learning from those sorry spectacles, Obama has bought into his own false narrative about some imaginary deregulatory action causing the economic collapse of 2008. Hence his baffling decision, cleverly buried in the Christmas Eve news dump from the White House communications office, to remove the $400 billion cap on federal loan guarantees for Fannie and Freddie.

Obama's decision is particularly disturbing for two reasons. First, taxpayers have already sunk $111 billion into the Fannie-Freddie bailout in just the last few months. The removal of the $400 billion cap suggests that things are about to worsen considerably. Second, it was precisely such government guarantees that caused the housing bubble and economic collapse in the first place.

Snake Versus Woodpecker - The Movie

Notice the egg in the snake's throat when it first emerges from the hole.

The Truth About Tiger Woods?

The ole lady smacked him with a 9 iron.

Elin confronted him about the text message in the phone, and the started a heated discussion to its regards. According to what I was told, there was more “incriminating evidence” than just the text message (i.e. photos). Tiger tried to play it off to Elin by telling her she was reading too much in to it, and did not know the story, etc. Tiger went upstairs to change into his gym shorts and t – shirt, came back down, and Elin confronted him again; to which Tiger gave the same story. Tiger sat down in a chair in the living room, and Elin sat across from him urging Tiger to just come clean. Tiger stayed to his guns and denied everything. At one point Tiger turned away to look at the TV, and as he turned back, Elin hit him on the right side of the face with the head of a 9 – iron. When she struck Tiger, she put a huge gash in the right side of his face next to his nose (causing his nose to bruise some), and virtually knocking two of his upper teeth out, and breaking the bone on the upper right side. Tiger ran scared as hell out of the house (which is why he had on no shoes) with Elin swinging the golf club throughout the hallway to the garage (i.e. causing the severe damage which has been reported). Tiger hoped in the Escalade and tried to leave; and as we know Elin knocked out the windows in the Escalade. When Tiger crashed, Elin panicked and was not sure what to tell the police (which is why there are two conflicting stories from her). When this happened, Elin immediately called Mark Steinberg to tell him what happened, and Mark told Elin to tell him what hospital they were going to, and he would meet them there.

And the reason that Woods wouldn't talk to the Florida Highway Patrol - He wasn't there. He was in Phoenix getting plastic surgery to conceal the damage.

Iran's Berlin Wall Moment?

Now this is a Green Movement that I can get behind.

The opposition has proven it has the resolve and resilience to sustain its risky challenge, despite the regime’s ruthless use of force, mass arrests, show trials and reports of torture and rape in prison. In the escalating political showdown the opposition has the momentum.

Just as important, the emergence of people power is also setting a new precedent in the last bloc of countries ruled by authoritarian regimes. Thirty years ago, Iran’s revolution redefined politics throughout the Middle East by ending dynastic rule and introducing Islam as a modern political idiom. Iran’s uprising is doing it again — this time by taking to the streets to demand an end to dictatorship as well as calling for fundamental rights such as free speech, a free press and respect for the individual vote.

John F Kennedy And A Boat Load Of Naked Babes

If this had been discovered about 50 years ago, history would have been changed.

Or not. The Smoking Gun exposes a hoax.

In a colossal screw-up, the gossip web site TMZ today published a photo purporting to show John F. Kennedy frolicking on a yacht with a harem of naked women--except that the image actually appeared as part of a November 1967 Playboy photo spread, The Smoking Gun has learned.

WILLIAMS: Foolish congressional accounting made simple - Washington Times

WILLIAMS: Foolish congressional accounting made simple - Washington Times

A good friend of mine came up to me the other day and said, "Hey, I'll be a millionaire in 10 years."

Now, I know this guy isn't a millionaire. He can't possibly make more than $100,000 a year, and I know he's paying off a big home and has a few children in school. So I said, "Really? Do you have a rich uncle who's dying soon?"

He replied, "Nope. My friend, I'll be a millionaire if you don't count any of my expenses. Yeah, if you take out what I owe on my house, my car payments, health expenses, taxes, I'll be a bona fide millionaire in 10 years. It's called 'congressional accounting,' man, it's the new way of doing math."

Hiding ACORN's Decline

No one really expected the Democrats to discard one of its most valuable political weapons.

Looks like things are starting to look up for those scoundrels, er, "community organizers," at ACORN.

At least, their friends are starting to run interference for them again.

A congressional research arm said Tuesday that the left-wing pressure group -- which Congress recently voted to cut off from federal funds after a sting operation caught employees dispensing housing-fraud advice to a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute -- violated no federal regulations.

This follows a Brooklyn federal judge's ruling this month that Congress' action was itself unconstitutional -- and an "internal review" (read: whitewash) by former Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger that found "no evidence" of illegal action on ACORN's part.

Fact Checking AP's Fact Checkers

It turns out that the Associated Press lied about what its independent fact checkers concluded about Climategate.

The first scientist quoted in the article, Mark Frankel, is director of scientific freedom, responsibility and law at the American Association for the Advancement of Science. AP quotes him as concluding that there is, "no evidence of falsification or fabrication of data, although concerns could be raised about some instances of very 'generous interpretations.'" While the article mentions that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and some Republican lawmakers are calling for independent investigations, AP doesn't note the views of the scientists they interviewed.

When The Washington Times talked to Mr. Frankel, the scientist gave a quite different impression. The e-mails, he said, are not sufficient to reach any judgment at all on whether the data or science was faked or misleading. "You can't do that on the e-mails alone, you can't do it on the e-mails or the program," he concluded. For that reason, Mr. Frankel supports investigation of East Anglia and related allegations of fraud at Pennsylvania State University.

As for the other two:

Arizona State University professor Dan Sarewitz is quoted by AP as saying, "This is normal science politics, but on the extreme end, though still within bounds." However, Mr. Sarewitz wasn't speaking about the validity of the climate science; he was discussing his belief that politics infects how most scientific research is conducted. While AP used the quote to suggest that there was nothing terribly wrong that had been revealed in Climategate, Mr. Sarewitz was trying to issue a warning that politics infects too much science and that reporters, politicians and the public are naive about that reality.

And finally:

The third scientist interviewed by AP, professor Gerald North at Texas A&M University, joined Mr. Frankel and Mr. Sarewitz in hoping that climate data would be more readily shared in the future. He told us he also thinks it is important that investigations proceed at the two universities.

Iranians Are Dying For Freedom. Where Is Barack Obama?

The whole world's watching
. Except for Barack Obama that is.

It's not as though the civilized world doesn't have a stake in the overthrow of the Iranian Mullahcracy.

On the other hand, Joe Biden let the world know that the Obama Administration has no problem with a nuclear Iran.

How Stupid Is Janet Napolitano

This stupid.

Napolitano smack down here.

I would wager that not one percent of Americans think the system is "working" when terrorists successfully get bombs onto planes (and succeed in activating them). Probably even fewer think it's fair that they have to take off their shoes, endure delays and madness while a known Islamic radical — turned in by his own father — can waltz onto a plane (and into the country). DHS had no role whatsoever in assuring that this bomb didn't go off. By her logic if the bomb had gone off, the system would have "worked" since it has done everything right.

Barack Hussein Obama Leaps Into Action After Terrorist Attack

Let's play, "Where's Barack Obama?"

Meanwhile, the system worked! Why? Because bureaucrats responded properly after the attack.

It is only pure luck and that we didn't have a "man-caused disaster."

What worked is that the passengers were not in a 9/10 mindset, as our politicians are.

Cap And Trade Dead

Democrats give up.

Bruised by the health care debate and worried about what 2010 will bring, moderate Senate Democrats are urging the White House to give up now on any effort to pass a cap-and-trade bill next year.

“I am communicating that in every way I know how,” says Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), one of at least half a dozen Democrats who've told the White House or their own leaders that it's time to jettison the centerpiece of their party's plan to curb global warming.

Delusional Napolitano "The System Worked"

More Democrat Accounting Fraud In Obamacare

Ken Lay went to prison for a lot less than this.

The CBO has affirmed that you can't count the health care bill's expected savings to Medicare twice -- either they count the money for the Medicare trust fund, or the money goes to pay for ObamaCare.

So, remember what Obama told the Congress in his September address?

"Not a dollar of the Medicare trust fund will be used to pay for this plan."

Where is Joe Wilson when you need him?

New York Times Doesn't Tell It's Readers That Terrorist Is A Muslim

Why would anyone want to learn that?

In reporting on the latest attempt and describing the previous ones, do you think the New York Times might have mentioned the religion of the perpetrators? So do I.

But with the legerdemain required to describe a spiral staircase without using one's hands, the Gray Lady has managed in its article today to report yesterday's attempt to bring down a NWA airliner, and the earlier attempts by Richard Reid [the "shoebomber'] and the those who plotted to bring down as many as ten jets leaving the UK for the United States, without using the word "Muslim."

New York Post Discovers Obama's Dictatorial Tendencies

I wonder if anyone at the NY Times ever bothers to read the Post to find out what's really happening.

What he is saying is that other governments around the world -- those tyrannical states that do not share our respect for the minority -- are better forms of government, better equipped to compete in this modern world.

This is a frightening new side of Barack Obama.

The humiliating causes of his frustration are obvious: the farce in Copenhagen and the difficult birth of health-care legislation in Congress.

Since his arrival on the national stage, Obama has been blessed with adversaries who overplay their hand claiming he is a "Manchurian candidate" out to destroy America from inside.

Obama won last year's historic election by rising above that nonsense.

His casting aspersions on the very genius of the American government because he can't get his way is cause for alarm.

Shock Study! The Media Are Liberal

I'm sure most of you will be shocked to learn this.

Of the 20 major media outlets studied, 18 scored left of center, with CBS' "Evening News," The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times ranking second, third and fourth most liberal behind the news pages of The Wall Street Journal.

Only Fox News' "Special Report With Brit Hume" and The Washington Times scored right of the average U.S. voter.

The most centrist outlet proved to be the "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer." CNN's "NewsNight With Aaron Brown" and ABC's "Good Morning America" were a close second and third.

"Our estimates for these outlets, we feel, give particular credibility to our efforts, as three of the four moderators for the 2004 presidential and vice-presidential debates came from these three news outlets — Jim Lehrer, Charlie Gibson and Gwen Ifill," Groseclose said. "If these newscasters weren't centrist, staffers for one of the campaign teams would have objected and insisted on other moderators."

The fourth most centrist outlet was "Special Report With Brit Hume" on Fox News, which often is cited by liberals as an egregious example of a right-wing outlet. While this news program proved to be right of center, the study found ABC's "World News Tonight" and NBC's "Nightly News" to be left of center. All three outlets were approximately equidistant from the center, the report found.

"If viewers spent an equal amount of time watching Fox's 'Special Report' as ABC's 'World News' and NBC's 'Nightly News,' then they would receive a nearly perfectly balanced version of the news," said Milyo, an associate professor of economics and public affairs at the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Five news outlets — "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer," ABC's "Good Morning America," CNN's "NewsNight With Aaron Brown," Fox News' "Special Report With Brit Hume" and the Drudge Report — were in a statistical dead heat in the race for the most centrist news outlet. Of the print media, USA Today was the most centrist.

I never did believe he was a sincere Christian and his involvement with Jeremiah Wright was nothing more than the opportunistic burnishing of street creds for his political ambitions. But can't he at least fake it?

An Inconvenient Alternative Explanation For Global Climate Change

In a peer-reviewed paper in a prestigious physic journal, physicist Qing Bin-Lu finds a inconvenient alternative explanation for recently observed climatic fluctuations. And he doesn't have to fudge numbers or "hide the decline."

In a peer-reviewed paper published in the prestigious online journal Physics Reports, Lu, who holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Newcastle, reports that CFCs, the compounds once widely used as refrigerants, and cosmic rays, which are energy particles originating in outer space, are mostly to blame for climate change, rather than carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Lu puts the start of the cooling trend at 2002 and writes that "the observed data show that CFCs conspiring with cosmic rays most likely caused both the Antarctic ozone hole and global warming. These findings are totally unexpected and striking, as I was focused on studying the mechanism for the formation of the ozone hole, rather than global warming."

From 1850 to 1950, Lu notes, the recorded CO2 level increased significantly because of the Industrial Revolution; the global temperature stayed constant or rose only 0.1 degree Celsius.

"Most remarkably, the total amount of CFCs, ozone-depleting molecules that are well-known greenhouse gases ... decreased around 2000," Lu said. "Correspondingly, the global surface temperature has also dropped. In striking contrast, the CO2 level has kept rising since 1850 and now is at its largest growth rate."

Parker Griffith Experiences Obama's Thug Politics

Any Democrats who are thinking of disobeying Nancy Pelosi or Barack Hussein Obama should be comforted to learn that the Democrats dig up dirt on their allies, just in case.

Obama Never Wanted A Public Option

Except for when he did. Only ABC's Jake Tapper bothers to fact check Obama.

"I didn't campaign on the public option," President Obama told the Washington Post yesterday.

Is that true?

It depends on what the meaning of "campaign" is.

Was it a major emphasis of his campaign? Not after he won the Democratic presidential nomination.

But did he mention it? Was it part of his "campaign"? Yes.

He told Planned Parenthood activists in 2007 that he wanted to set up "a public plan that all persons and all women can access if they don't have health insurance. It will be a plan that will provide all essential services, including reproductive services."

His still active campaign website promises a public option and his campaign literature was quite clear about his intention to impose socialized medicine.

The mainstream media can fact check things that really matter, such as Sarah Palin's memoirs, but can't be bothered to fact check our president.

Democratic Congress Not Corrupt Enough

It's bad enough that even Katie Couric found it unseemly.

But Democrats don't think that they've been corrupt enough.

U.S. House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C., said Republicans need to stop complaining about deals their colleagues made.

“Rather than sitting here and carping about what Nelson got for Nebraska, I would say to my friends on the other side of the aisle: Let’s get together and see what we can get for South Carolina,” Clyburn said.

Judging by Federal Election Commission data on the political contributions of people associated with the top 15 class-action plaintiffs' law firms, it's no accident that malpractice reform is not part of health care "reform": Trial lawyers are investing heavily in their Democratic friends who control the White House and both chambers of Congress.

Waiting For 2010

Peter DeFazio Not Afraid Of Obama

I agree with almost nothing Peter DeFazio stands for, but after Ben Nelson and Mary Landrieu's principle auctions, I have to respect him for at least standing by what he believes.

Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother,” Obama told DeFazio during a closed-door meeting of the House Democratic Caucus, according to members afterward.

Christmas Is Not Your Birthday

‘Tis the season for Chia pets and dancing flowers. That’s because as Christmas approaches and we grow more desperate to check off those final names on our shopping list, our discretion loses the debate with impatience and we worry more about getting our shopping done before the deadline than we do about the value we receive. I know that my basement has filled with gifts that I have no use for, given to me by family members who probably imagined that their gift was inspired. And after a few years collecting dust, these gifts typically end up listed on Palouseads.com or are donated to Goodwill Industries.

And I find that even those gifts I give to others, and in which I have invested all of my thoughtfulness, frequently end up stored in a closet until enough time has elapsed so that they may be guiltlessly disposed of at a garage sale. This is not uncommon. Contrary to popular myth, the busiest day at retail stores is not Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. It’s the day after Christmas when gift recipients flock to stores trying to exchange unneeded or unwanted gifts.

If you are desperately trying to get those last minute gifts for the people who have everything they really need, there is an alternative that will always be appreciated and will never be returned. Consider making a charitable donation in the name of a loved one and insert that information into a card. No one will ever be disappointed that you donated to someone in genuine need. Some charities will even send a card for you or provide you with a pdf file that you can use to print your own card.

I am frequently the recipient of e-mails, often forwarded many times, that heap praise upon our service men and women. Just this week I received a very moving poem just about a Marine standing guard so that a family may enjoy a safe and secure Christmas in a warm home. The Marine in the poem was a 19 year old, standing watch in a cold rain in Afghanistan on Christmas Day. I’m certain that his heart would be warmed to know that people were thinking enough of him to encourage others to pray for him.

And I’m equally certain that his heart would also be warmed more fully to know that on Christmas Day, the families of his fallen brothers were being taken care of by people who appreciate their sacrifice.

I have several charities that I like to donate to for Christmas. My two favorite military charities are the Fisher House Foundation (http://www.fisherhouse.org) and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (http://fallenheroesfund.org/). Both of these charities provide support to the families of service men and women killed or wounded in action. They also assist with the rehabilitation of severely wounded soldiers and Marines. With both charities, 100% of your donation will go where you intend. All administrative and fundraising costs are born by the charities’ trustees. You can even designate how your donation is to be distributed. This year, my donation in my parents’ name will go into a college scholarship fund for the children of our fallen heroes.

Another fine charity for you to consider is the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). UMCOR (http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/) is a mission of the United Methodist Church that responds rapidly to disasters around the world as well as ongoing needs. Again, 100% of your donation will reach those you wish to assist as the United Methodist Church employs its existing infrastructure to bear any administrative costs.

Heifer Project is an economic development charity with a fine track record of lifting families out of poverty and onto a path of self sufficiency. Heifer Project offers a full catalog of charitable opportunities at their website, http://www.heifer.org. Heifer Project also makes it particularly easy to make a donation in another’s name and generate appropriate Christmas cards.

Consider local charities as well. Sharing tree opportunities abound in this area. You can purchase a toy that will find its way under a Christmas tree that might otherwise have nothing underneath. A donation to your local food bank could help families enjoy a Christmas dinner much like the one you are looking forward to.

I know that I’d prefer that my family made such a donation than purchase for me some silly gag gift that will never see the light of day.

A Gore Effect Snowstorm Predicted For Washington, DC

Just to remind Easterners just how junky climate science has become, a big snowstorm is predicted for this weekend.

The Northeast is bracing for a major winter storm that is expected to bring at least 10 inches of snow to the Washington, D.C. region.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the region and says the snow is expected to arrive late Friday night and continue through Saturday morning.

Unions Upset With Obamacare

Just how much will unions swallow for party loyalty? Will they sell out their own membership?

The AFL-CIO, the nation's largest labor federation, and the Service Employees International Union both expressed deep disappointment with the Senate bill. It omits a government-run insurance plan sought by liberals, and includes a tax on high-cost insurance plans that unions fear will hurt their members.

SEIU President Andy Stern scolded Obama, saying the president should remember his campaign promise to bring change to America. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said the Senate bill "bends toward the insurance industry."

I'm betting that party loyalty will win. The unions care far less about their membership than empowering Democrats.

Ed Schultz Figures Out That Obama's A Thug

It's likely that he's the last one to figure it out.

"The White House — ooh, are they a little touchy as of late? Desperate to sell what they are calling health care reform — I don’t buy it. They are trying to vilify now anyone who opposes it. That’s what’s happening to Howard Dean."

Robert Byrd Sells Out His Home State

Maybe it's time to start renaming all those federal buildings, bridges and highways named after history's most profligate porkmeister. In the end, he's selling out his state for the aggrandizement of Barack Hussein Obama.

In an early December op-ed piece released by his office — also recorded on audio by the frail 92-year-old senator — Byrd argued that resistance to constraints on mountaintop-removal coal mining and a failure to acknowledge that “the truth is that some form of climate legislation will likely become public policy” represent the real threat to the future of coal.

“Change has been a constant throughout the history of our coal industry,” Byrd said in the 1,161-word statement. “West Virginians can choose to anticipate change and adapt to it or resist and be overrun by it. One thing is clear: The time has arrived for the people of the Mountain State to think long and hard about which course they want to choose.”

In almost any other state, Byrd’s remarks might not have caused such a stir. But in West Virginia, where the coal industry — even in its currently diminished form — accounts for 30,000 jobs and more than $3.5 billion in gross annual product and provides roughly half of all American coal exports, according to the state coal association, his statement reverberated across the political landscape.

Obama Bows Again

Is there anyone he won't grovel before?

Obamanomics Of Health Care

Barack Hussein Obama has given us unprecedented deficits and has suddenly become a deficit hawk. How is he going to cut the budget? With a new multitrillion dollar orgy of spending of course.

In an interview with ABC News, President Obama once again proved to be one of the best spinners in Washington, D.C. The United States, he said, will go “bankrupt” if his multi-trillion dollar health care plan America cannot afford, isn’t passed by Congress.
I know what you’re thinking: “that doesn’t make sense. If we’re already terribly in debt, we shouldn’t be adding to it.” Well, that may sound logical to your fiscally conservative and therefore terribly old-fashioned mind, but that’s only because you don’t understand the golden rule of Obamaland: up is down and down is up.

You see, in Obama’s wonderful alternative reality, nothing is what it seems to be. It’s a magical place in which gravity and other laws of nature don’t exist. In this heaven on earth, you can cause an economic crisis by forcing banks to give mortgages to people who can’t afford them, and then blame the “free market” and “nasty capitalists” when the economy collapses. It’s a world in which you treat enemies as friends and friends as enemies, thinking that’ll bring about peace.

How Big An Asshole Is Al Franken?

This big.

Copenhagen Needs A Savior

Guess who?

Everyone seems to be waiting for someone to break the dam. And everyone knows who that someone is. Because of the size and weight of the United States, and the moral power invested in the current president, it is Barack Obama, and Barack Obama alone, who can rescue the climate negotiations from the dismal bickering into which they have slumped.

How To Stack The Climate Evidence Deck

Lord Monckton delivers a righteous fisking to Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC.

1. Pachauri asked us to believe that the IPCC’s documents were “peer-reviewed”. Then he revealed the truth by saying that it was the authors of the IPCC’s climate assessments who decided whether the reviewers’ comments were acceptable. That – whatever else it is – is not peer review.

2. Pachauri said that greenhouse gases had increased by 70% between 1970 and 2004. This figure was simply nonsense. I have seen this technique used time and again by climate liars. They insert an outrageous statement early in their presentations, see whether anyone reacts and, if no one reacts, they know they will get away with the rest of the lies. I did my best not to react. I wanted to hear, and write down, the rest of the lies.

3. Next came the bogus graph, which is featured three times, large and in full color, in the IPCC’s 2007 climate assessment report. The graph is bogus not only because it relies on the made-up data from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia but also because it is overlain by four separate trend-lines, each with a start-date carefully selected to give the entirely false impression that the rate of warming over the past 150 years has itself been accelerating, especially between 1975 and 1998. The truth, however – neatly obscured by an ingenious rescaling of the graph and the superimposition of the four bogus trend lines on it – is that from 1860-1880 and again from 1910-1940 the warming rate was exactly the same as the warming rate from 1975-1998.
4. Pachauri said that there had been an “acceleration” in sea-level rise from 1993. He did not say, however, that in 1993 the method of measuring sea-level rise had switched from tide-gages to satellite altimetry against a reference geoid. The apparent increase in the rate of sea-level rise is purely an artefact of this change in the method of measurement.

5. Pachauri said that Arctic temperatures would rise twice as fast as global temperatures over the next 100 years. However, he failed to point out that the Arctic was actually 1-2 Celsius degrees warmer than the present in the 1930s and early 1940s. It has become substantially cooler than it was then.

6. Pachauri said the frequency of heavy rainfall had increased. The evidence for this proposition is largely anecdotal. Since there has been no statistically-significant “global warming” for 15 years, there is no reason to suppose that any increased rainfall in recent years is attributable to “global warming”.

7. Pachauri said that the proportion of tropical cyclones that are high-intensity storms has increased in the past three decades. However, he was very careful not to point out that the total number of intense tropical cyclones has actually fallen sharply throughout the period.

8. Pachauri said that the activity of intense Atlantic hurricanes had increased since 1970. This is simply not true, but it appears to be true if – as one very bad scientific paper in 2006 did – one takes the data back only as far as that year. Take the data over the whole century, as one should, and no trend whatsoever is evident. Here, Pachauri is again using the same statistical dodge he used with the UN’s bogus “warming-is-getting-worse” graph: he is choosing a short run of data and picking his start-date with care so as falsely to show a trend that, over a longer period, is not significant.

9. Pachauri said small islands like the Maldives were vulnerable to sea-level rise. Not if they’re made of coral, which is more than capable of outgrowing any sea-level rise. Besides, as Professor Morner has established, sea level in the Maldives is no higher now than it was 1250 years ago, and has not risen for half a century.

10. Pachauri said that if the ice-sheets of Greenland or West Antarctica were to melt there would be “meters of sea-level rise”. Yes, but his own climate panel has said that that could not happen for thousands of years, and only then if global mean surface temperatures stayed at least 2 C (3.5 F) warmer than today’s.

There is more. Much more. Pachauri was reciting lie after lie and Lord Monckton is far better informed on the issue that Pauchauri is.

Incredible Pettiness At The New York Times

The hard left New York Times published a column earlier accusing the Wall Street Journal of tilting right. The Wall Street Journal answered. And now we know that the New York Times actually lobbied a journalistic prize committee against awarding an honor to the Journal.

The news column by a Mr David Carr today is yet more evidence that The New York Times is uncomfortable about the rise of an increasingly successful rival while its own circulation and credibility are in retreat. The usual practice of quoting ex-employees was supplemented by a succession of anonymous quotes and unsubstantiated assertions. The attack follows the extraordinary actions of Mr Bill Keller, the Executive Editor, who, among other things, last year wrote personally and at length to a prize committee casting aspersions on Journal journalists and journalism. Whether it be in the quest for prizes or in the disparagement of competitors, principle is but a bystander at The New York Times.

More On Obama's Threat Against Ben Nelson

Michael Goldfarb points out that the Obama Administration is ignorant of the base closing process. Glenn Becks recites a litany of Obama thuggery.

Copenhagen Is All About World Socialism

The mask is off.

President Chavez brought the house down.

When he said the process in Copenhagen was “not democratic, it is not inclusive, but isn’t that the reality of our world, the world is really and imperial dictatorship…down with imperial dictatorships” he got a rousing round of applause.

When he said there was a “silent and terrible ghost in the room” and that ghost was called capitalism, the applause was deafening.

But then he wound up to his grand conclusion – 20 minutes after his 5 minute speaking time was supposed to have ended and after quoting everyone from Karl Marx to Jesus Christ – “our revolution seeks to help all people…socialism, the other ghost that is probably wandering around this room, that’s the way to save the planet, capitalism is the road to hell….let’s fight against capitalism and make it obey us.” He won a standing ovation.

Harry Reid Threatens Ben Nelson

With a base closure and the loss of 10,000 in Nelson's home state.

According to a Senate aide, the White House is now threatening to put Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn't fall into line.

Offutt Air Force Base employs some 10,000 military and federal employees in Southeastern Nebraska. As our source put it, this is a "naked effort by Rahm Emanuel and the White House to extort Nelson's vote." They are "threatening to close a base vital to national security for what?" asked the Senate staffer.

Another story for the New York Times, ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN to ignore.

Isn't this supposed to be illegal? I thought this was why we had a base closure commission.

Chuck You Schumer Call Airline Steward A "Bitch"

Don't you know who I am?

Everybody knows that you're supposed to turn your cell phone off before a plane can take off. But Chuckie Schumer doesn't think the law should apply to him.

Schumer asked if he could finish his conversation. When the flight attendant said “no,” Schumer ended his call but continued to argue his case.

He said he was entitled to keep his phone on until the cabin door was closed. The flight attendant said he was obliged to turn it off whenever a flight attendant asked.

“He argued with her about the rule,” the source said. “She said she doesn’t make the rules, she just follows them.”

When the flight attendant walked away, the witness says Schumer turned to Gillibrand and uttered the B-word.

“The senator made an off-the-cuff comment under his breath that he shouldn’t have made, and he regrets it,” Schumer spokesman Brian Fallon told Shenanigans.

This classism seems to be a recurring problem with Democrats.

See here and here for just a couple of examples.

San Francisco: The Worst Run City In America

If you want a window into the kind of culture that gives us Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer, read this. It's too much for the city's leftist fish wrap.

An engineer by trade, Agunbiade was appointed by Mayor Gavin Newsom to head the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department in 2004. Even before Agunbiade's tenure, Rec and Park was the department other city departments pointed and laughed at — but under Agunbiade, it became Amy Poehler funny.

During his reign, an audit revealed, rec centers frequently didn't open, because staff simply didn't show up — and the department had no process to do anything about it. Good news: New rec centers were slated to open. Bad news: Agunbiade's department had no plan for how to staff them. But that wasn't enough to cost Agunbiade his job.

When the city controller's office made the common-sense recommendation that groundskeepers ought to be where they were assigned to be when they're supposed to be there, Agunbiade fought them on it for three years. Running a department where no one knows where anyone is — and no one even wants to know? Not a problem.

Then a report by the city's budget analyst found massive fiscal mismanagement at the Marina Yacht Harbor, which is run by Rec and Park. Perhaps so much money wouldn't have gone unaccounted for, the audit suggested, if the department had installed a cash register. Still, not a problem for Agunbiade. Other reports exposed one organizational or fiscal snafu after another, but his position was secure. In San Francisco, running a city department like a Franz Kafka nightmare doesn't cost a decisionmaker his job.

Agunbiade was eventually fired - for being too outspokenly Christian it seems.

The End Of Liberalism?

Have liberals finally spent themselves (and the country) into oblivion?

[W]ithin the lifetimes of the vast majority of living Americans, government as we have known it since the New Deal will become paralyzed, unable to deliver even basic services, let alone the myriad of entitlements that politicians had promised would last forever. Liberalism will owe its undoing to its blind faith that government could forever be the inexhaustible provider of ever more spending, more benefits and more prosperity, with nary a day of reckoning.

Obama's Iran Policy A Failure According To Hillary Clinton

Time for another sternly-worded letter.

Palin Fires Back At The Governator

Arnold's policies worked so well for California, why not inflict them on the entire world?

Sarah Palin is hitting back at California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's dig at the former Alaska governor over the issue of climate change.

"Why is Governor Schwarzenegger pushing for the same sorts of policies in Copenhagen that have helped drive his state into record deficits and unemployment?" Palin wrote on her Facebook page Tuesday night. "Perhaps he will recall that I live in our nation's only Arctic state and that I was among the first governors to create a sub-cabinet to deal specifically with climate change."

Missing George Bush

Buyer's remorse.

The re-evaluation of Mr. Bush is occurring for two main reasons. 1) The expectations set by Mr. Obama, his campaign, and those who supported him that he would be a kind of Magical Merlin, capable of changing human nature and the interests of nations, were always impossible. He is perceived as failing because there was never any way he could have delivered the lofty, saviorlike promises he made. He is as earth-bound as was Mr. Bush.

And 2) It's quickly dawning on more and more people that the presidency is difficult. This obvious reality is often overlooked until a president leaves office and is replaced by a successor who appears submerged by the responsibilities. It's "the hardest job in the world" for a reason: Every day brings a new, impossible challenge that demands immediate attention; some new, tough decision that must be made; some new, unprecedented problem that needs to be solved. The gig is no picnic, and executive experience matters. In an interview on Sunday's "60 Minutes," when Mr. Obama was asked about making hard decisions, he literally blurted out, "This is really hard."

Iran Test Fires Long Range Ballistic Missile

Gee, isn't that evil Bush doctrine starting to look a little better?

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the missile launch could increase the likelihood of further sanctions on Iran.

"This is a matter of serious concern to the international community and it does make the case for us moving further on sanctions," he said.

The French Foreign Ministry said the launch was "very worrying".

"A test of this kind can only strengthen the international community's worries at a time that Iran is also developing a nuclear programme with no identifiable civil objective in violation of five United Nations Security Council resolutions," spokesman Bernard Valero said.

In September, Iran was heavily criticised after testing its Sajjil and Shahab missiles.

Oooooo! I'm sure those mullahs are quaking in their boots, or whatever it is they wear on their feet.

Al Gore Lies About Global Warming - Again

If malaria returns to the United States and Europe, it won't be because of global warming.

I am a scientist, not a climatologist, so I don’t dabble in climatology. My speciality is the epidemiology of mosquito-borne diseases. As the film began, I knew Mr Gore would get to mosquitoes: they’re a favourite with climate-change activists. When he got to them, it was all I feared.

Obama Handcuffs The War On Terror

The armed predator program is keeping Al Qaeda off balance and in retreat. Why not expand it? One reason: Barack Hussein Obama.

One person standing in the way of expanded missile strikes: President Obama. Five administration officials tell NEWSWEEK that the president has sided with political and diplomatic advisers who argue that widening the scope of the drone attacks would be risky and unwise.

Al Gore's Cat Comes Clean

Does The Sun Warm The Earth?

They're not talking about this in Copenhagen.

Scientists at Zurich's Federal Institute of Technology have found that solar activity caused Alpine glaciers to melt in the 1940s at rates faster than today's pace, even though it's warmer now.

The study found that the sun in the 1940s was 8% stronger than average and far more powerful than it is today. It also concluded that solar activity was weaker from the 1950s to the 1980s, an era in which the glaciers advanced.

The Swiss researchers are spinning their own work, saying that the evidence doesn't mean the public can stop worrying about man-made warming. But their finding validates other researchers who have said solar activity has a far greater impact on temperatures than human CO2 emissions.

"You're Screwed!"

So much for Nancy Pelosi's Thousand Year Reich.

When House Democrats gathered on Friday for their end-of-the week caucus meeting in the basement of the Capitol, caucus chairman John Larson (D-Conn.) told the group he wanted them to hear first from Rep. Michael Capuano, who'd just returned from a primary campaign for the Senate seat in Massachusetts vacated by the death of Ted Kennedy.

Larson asked Capuano, who finished in second place, to share the wisdom he learned on the campaign trail.

Capuano took to the microphone, looked out at his colleagues and condensed what he'd learned into two words. "You're screwed," he told his friends in the House, according to one attendee. The room's silence was broken only by soft, nervous laughter.

100 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Worry About Global Warming

Al Gore and the Warm Mongers would have you believe that we're headed for catastrophe. Not true.

If you're staying awake at night worrying about this, here are a few reason why you should chill.http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif

1) There is “no real scientific proof” that the current warming is caused by the rise of greenhouse gases from man’s activity.

2) Man-made carbon dioxide emissions throughout human history constitute less than 0.00022 percent of the total naturally emitted from the mantle of the earth during geological history.

3) Warmer periods of the Earth’s history came around 800 years before rises in CO2 levels.

4) After World War II, there was a huge surge in recorded CO2 emissions but global temperatures fell for four decades after 1940.

5) Throughout the Earth’s history, temperatures have often been warmer than now and CO2 levels have often been higher – more than ten times as high.

6) Significant changes in climate have continually occurred throughout geologic time.

7) The 0.7C increase in the average global temperature over the last hundred years is entirely consistent with well-established, long-term, natural climate trends.

The First Tool Using Invertebrate?

That's what scientists think.

But I don't think that's true. I saw Jimmie Carter use an boat oar to defend himself from a killer rabbit.

Obama Funds Commie Propagandists!

It's true. The Obama Administration gave $25,000 to support the "Belly of the Beast" puppet theater. And this isn't just any puppet show. It's devoted entirely to extolling the virtues of Stalinism.

In their own words:

HOBT's May Day Parade, Ceremony, and Festival has always been rooted in two important traditional celebrations--the celebration of the Green Root of Earth's green energy rising in Spring, and the Red Root of human work energy rising from mind, heart and hand.

Our May Day 2009 theme celebrated the merging of the red and green energies of the world. We celebrated the great merging of the human social justice movements with the environmental movements to remember humans as responsible relatives of the earth.
As we experience the failure of our economic systems built on debt, consumer waste, the theft and sickening of earth resources, we gathered to rebuild an economic system that protects and sustains our Earth as a "Common Treasury for All."

For you newcomers, red in this context doesn't mean Republican. It means communist. And May Day has long been the traditional day of celebration for all the joy and prosperity that communism has brought the world.

We Need More Cheap Labor!

Let's see now. We have 10% unemployment - 17% actually if you include the underemployed and those who have given up. So according the liberals, we need to expand our labor pool by legalizing millions of illegal aliens.

Brilliant!

Democrats on Tuesday begin their new push for an immigration bill, hamstrung by the image of legalizing millions of illegal immigrant workers at a time when the unemployment rate stands at 10 percent -- more than twice what it was the last time Congress tried to act.
